Read the community guidelines1. The office is located in the Zhonghe Far Eastern Century Plaza, which is convenient.
2. The salary is slightly higher than the industry average.
3. The boss and the boss’s wife are often not in the office, so you can leave work on time.
There are quite a few drawbacks, and I cannot describe them in a bullet-point format. This company was founded in 2017 and is run by a married couple who immigrated to Australia when they were young. Because the boss’s wife’s younger brother operates a factory in mainland China, the boss’s wife set up an office in Taiwan for triangular trade. The boss originally worked in sales at a rubber company, but later resigned and poached the only customer he had developed at his former company to start his own business.
This company specializes in exporting silicone products, but it has only one customer, in Singapore. The company has no factory in Taiwan, so it often has to outsource production. Either the work is outsourced to the boss’s wife’s younger brother’s factory in mainland China, or suppliers have to be found independently in Taiwan.
However, the company’s only customer often has customized requirements, uses all kinds of unusual materials, and orders only small quantities. As a result, even when the company wants to find manufacturers in Taiwan, no one is interested, because the customization is too complicated and the quantities are too small. The company’s growth has been extremely slow and has remained stuck at the customer-inquiry stage. The number of orders actually closed is pitifully low, and currently only one or two products are shipped steadily. The company’s prospects are worrying.
The company’s management is extremely chaotic. First, there are fewer than three colleagues, including me. In addition, the company loves creating group chats on messaging apps and assigning tasks to employees remotely. Whether you are having lunch or have already left work, they will post instructions in the group whenever they think of something. The boss and his wife also like to give unclear instructions, often asking people to carry out tasks without explaining the background or context. The company is very poor at outsourcing, and the manufacturers it finds frequently make mistakes.
The company has never standardized its operations into SOPs. Every time the same task is performed, there are different details, so even if you are very eager to learn, what you learn here is fragmented. The company’s network of contacts is very complicated: sometimes you have to contact people in mainland China, sometimes Hong Kong, and there are also invisible colleagues (people hired part-time to handle projects).
Furthermore, the company is extremely accommodating toward its only customer. It never refuses the customer’s many strange customization requests, even when it has no ability to fulfill them, leaving employees struggling to find manufacturers and materials. In the end, the customer still does not place an order.
The company does not value its employees as much as it values its customer. I sincerely feel that if you want to grow the company, please cherish your internal employees.
