The system is outdated, and the boss has no empathy
When I joined, my salary was 47K/month; after I started being on call, it was 53K/month; when I resigned, it was 63K/month.
During this period, I took bereavement leave and went on a three-day trip (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday).
While on call, the boss, clients, or vendors could call me at any time.
The system was terrible. At first, I was called almost every two days.
I was called even while on bereavement leave and while I was away on a trip.
The boss said that whoever takes over the system is responsible for it, regardless of who wrote it before; once it is handed to you, it is yours.
His job was to keep calling until I answered and went online to handle it.
Sometimes, when I was driving and received an on-call call, I would ask the other party to wait a moment.
At my final performance review, I said that I needed support because I carried my laptop with me everywhere.
The boss asked me, “Then why would you sometimes ask clients to wait?”
Also, at the time, my child was in the emergency department for observation, and I told my boss that I needed to leave work on time.
At 7 p.m., I was preparing to leave when I ran into my boss in front of the elevator.
He wanted to discuss work with me right there at the elevator.
Even if they raised my salary to 63K, I still wouldn’t want to do the job anymore.
