The company environment is nice
Overtime pay
When I first interviewed, the boss put on a kind and pleasant face and said there would be no overtime,
that the purpose of the end of the workday was to let employees improve themselves,
but that there would be overtime pay if overtime was required.
After I joined, however, there was a pile of work,
and the boss loved dumping work on me right before the end of the workday,
so I had no choice but to work overtime. Every time I brought up overtime pay,
he would say, “I never deducted your salary when you took leave, either.”
Later, overtime pay was changed to compensatory leave.
One time, when I needed to take leave for a trip, I calculated my overtime hours and used compensatory leave,
and was called in for a talk again: “I never deducted your salary when you took leave,
so it wouldn’t be right for you to calculate overtime as compensatory leave now, would it?” 🙄️
Taking advantage of employees
The boss has three companies under his name.
During the interview, he repeatedly guaranteed that I would only be a nominal employee of the architecture company,
and that my actual work would still be interior design.
After I joined, however, he kept assigning architecture projects to me
(I had worked at an architecture firm for two years).
After discussing it with him, we could not reach an agreement,
so this was one of the reasons I resigned.
But after I left, he privately told others:
“She was fired by me. She didn’t have any interior design experience yet,
and she kept insisting on doing interior design.” 🙄️
Please—I applied for an interior design assistant position.
You wasted my time and still had the nerve to say that?
One of my colleagues was in the same situation:
in addition to doing interior design, they were also told to work on coatings.
The important thing is, none of our salaries were ever increased. 👍
Untrustworthy
The employment agreement stated that after the three-month probation period,
salaries would be adjusted based on the company’s operations and individual performance.
Not a single colleague received an adjustment.
If our performance was poor, why did you keep us?
As for the company’s operating situation,
after returning from Japan, the boss bought an extremely expensive mouse.
It seems business must have been going pretty well.
Finally, when the minimum wage was adjusted this year,
he hurriedly raised all our salaries.
For the Mid-Autumn Festival, the company originally bought gift boxes for employees for the three major holidays,
but because there were not enough boxes for the vendors, he took ours to make up the difference
and told us to choose from the ones sent by the vendors instead.
But every time one arrived, he immediately opened it and ate it.
In the end, he told us to take home the few boxes he did not like to eat... 🙄️
Disrespectful toward women
The company’s staff were all young, attractive women.
Even though the company had a vehicle,
he would double-ride our scooters to construction sites with us (he never paid for gas).
He rode extremely dangerously—speeding, not watching the road, and running red lights.
When cutting through narrow roads, he did not pay attention to the passenger’s feet.
After accidentally hitting our legs, he would touch them and say, “Are you okay?”
(More than one person had this experience.)
Once, a colleague was feeling very unwell because of her period and needed to take leave.
He responded with an expression that seemed to say, “Is it really that painful? It’s just your period.”
Also, he would criticize women’s looks and outfits while on the road.
Just look at the way he dresses... and he still had the nerve to criticize others. 🤷
Making empty promises
He loved promising clients that he would meet unreasonable demands.
For example, there was a nearly century-old house where the client wanted a 3D model.
He told me it would be easy—just use path-following or something like that to draw it.
Um... someone who could not even draw in SKP was teaching me how to draw?
The site was huge, with a building covered in carvings. I spent two weeks measuring it
and more than two months drafting it. It was an enormous waste of time.... 🙄️
Stingy
Near the end of the year, I was called in and told to write a performance review.
I asked whether there was an annual bonus,
and he actually replied, “You really love money that much?”
Uh... otherwise, am I here doing charity work? 🤷
After resigning, I calculated all my overtime hours and asked him to pay me.
He said, “You also need to deduct the hours you took leave, any time you arrived late,
any compensatory leave you did not receive over the New Year holiday, and your final day when you did not work.”
I had already checked with the Labor Bureau and confirmed that unused compensatory leave over the New Year holiday did not need to be deducted.
As for the final day, he was the one who told me not to come in. Was he really trying to deduct money from me afterward?
Among the leave hours, there was also leave for confirmed-case isolation.
The reason I tested positive was that he went to Taitung to see the hot-air balloons
and infected the entire company after returning.
By rights, an infection contracted because of work should not result in a salary deduction.
Yet he replied, “Maybe you were out running around on your days off. It’s not necessarily my fault, is it?”
In the end, I successfully received the overtime pay I was owed.
But after I left, he told my colleagues:
“From now on, whenever you go out, you must fill out a form stating your reason, what time you leave, and when you return. If you are late in the morning or take too long during your lunch break, you will have to leave work later, because [name] asked me for overtime pay after resigning, causing some trouble and affecting the flexible arrangement we originally had.”
Damn, what the hell does that have to do with me...? 🙄️
There is still a lot more I could write
In short, it is best not to work there—you will only waste your time
