Pros

1. I’ve heard that the benefits for “full-time employees” are pretty good.

Cons

1. Neither the job posting on 104 nor the interview disclosed that the position I was applying for was a contract role. In one word: dishonest.

2. They recruit contract employees every year. Based on what I heard from HR, contract employees do not have the opportunity to become permanent employees.

3. Contract employees sign a one-year contract each year, ending on December 31. You should understand what that means by now, right?

In other words, although they make the job sound great by mentioning an annual bonus and many benefits, if your contract is not renewed, there is a possibility that you will not receive the year-end bonus.

4. The company uses your previous salary to determine your compensation. Basically, they do not recognize your previous work experience, so it is extremely difficult to ask for a salary that matches your years of experience. Asking about your expected salary is just for show.

5. You have to provide your own laptop. Although the company says it will help subsidize your laptop purchase over three years, as mentioned above, if you are not a permanent employee but a contract employee, this is a very frightening situation. If you are a contract employee assigned to a particular project and they say goodbye when your contract ends, or if you find the job unsuitable, or if you leave voluntarily after learning everything you need to know, sorry—the remaining cost is yours to bear. The company also saves money. Employees have to buy their own laptops, and the company does not provide the full subsidy upfront; instead, it gives you the subsidy in installments. The company really knows how to do the math. From this, we can see: first, this may simply be the company’s system; second, this position has a high turnover rate; and third, they may only be looking for disposable workers.

6. Although HR notified me that I had been hired and the benefits seemed genuinely good—an annual salary guaranteed for 14 months, plus other attractive benefits—readers can check the company’s 104 listing themselves. After painting such a rosy picture, they only later told me that the position was a contract role, which left me quite stunned. So I decisively declined the offer. I hope this message helps anyone who sees it save a lot of valuable time. If you want to join this company, unless it is a permanent position or the terms they offer you are genuinely excellent, think it over carefully. Otherwise, don’t bother considering it.
