Pros

(Taichung Hankou Branch)

Pros:

1. The supervisor tells you in advance when it’s time to get off work, so you can clock out on time.

2. The customers are generally quite decent.

Cons

Cons:

1. If the supervisor doesn’t like you, they will chew you out badly. In particular, the supervisors who stand at the counter are all very difficult to deal with. The biggest boss is probably the one whose name has repeated characters (the supervisors are all very good friends, and they are also on good terms with the owner).

2. This store places very high demands on service attitude, so people who are impolite should not apply.

3. If you have friends or relatives who know people at the store, you may have an easier time getting through.

4. Many things must be done strictly according to the SOP, to the point of being extremely nitpicky.

5. Holiday shifts do not include labor insurance. Staff meals are eaten after work, but some people are scheduled to eat during work hours???

6. Each person is assigned a task for the day, such as sweeping the employee room, cleaning the restroom, replenishing menus, clearing tables, handling the food pass, and so on. Clearing tables will work you to death—don’t ask me how I know.

7. In the past, employees were asked to get five-star Google Maps reviews from customers (there was a script), so that’s how there came to be so many reviews on Google Maps. If a customer was writing a review and a supervisor saw you standing there waiting expectantly, you would be scolded and told that this was not acceptable and that you needed to interact with the customer. After the customer finished writing the review, you also had to ask for their ID and record it, then hand it to the supervisor after work. You would be lectured if you didn’t get it, so some coworkers even used their own time after work to ask, because there were so many things to do and they were too busy to ask during their shifts. Some customers also felt this behavior was inappropriate, as mentioned in Google Maps reviews. Many customers asked whether giving five stars would get them a discount, but there wasn’t one—really, there wasn’t 😀
