Pros

The colleagues are quite easy to get along with.

Cons

1. Company level: The systems are extremely inadequate, which may be a common problem among startups. The boss is like an emperor, and basically has the final say. The company’s main projects may very well cross the boundaries of legality (including gambling, pyramid schemes, underground currency exchange platforms, etc.), and for this reason, the boss tends to avoid transparency in many matters. Although it is clearly a small company of only 11 people, the hierarchy is very pronounced. When there are problems, the boss does not communicate directly and usually goes through a third party. In addition, the boss places his own informants in the office. He does not spend much effort managing the company internally, but relies heavily on the informants’ gossip. In short, it is a very dysfunctional company.

2. Boss level: As mentioned above, the boss’s presence in the company is like that of an emperor. Meeting notices are sent only five minutes to half an hour beforehand. During meetings, he is usually not listening and is busy scrolling through his phone; he may even interrupt halfway through a presentation to ask what the presentation is about. He usually comes into the office in the afternoon and basically does not respond to messages in the morning (I speculate that he is sleeping), but expects employees to remain on call after work (of course, without overtime pay). He expects employees to arrive at work on time, but does not look pleased when they leave on time. None of the situations above are isolated incidents, nor are they specifically directed at anyone; this is simply the boss’s usual way of doing things. In addition, I personally speculate that the reason many of the company’s projects have legal concerns is very likely related to the boss’s personal relationships.

In conclusion, before coming to work here, please first consider your own ethical boundaries. During the interview, do not expect the boss to disclose any information about the company’s projects. He will describe different corporate visions based on each person’s background, so don’t be fooled~
