As soon as I arrived, I was immediately taken into an office on the left (the owner's office!?). He had already printed out the company's basic résumé form and handed it directly to me to fill out, while he sat across from me looking at his laptop. It probably only took a little over ten minutes to complete.
After that, he went straight to the point and asked whether I knew what products they made. Then he asked what thoughts I had... and so on!
Besides the products currently shown on their official website, they also have new products they want to develop and sell right away!
From our conversation, it seemed that the owner himself has only worked with the domestic market, so the overseas market would be starting from zero!!!! So, as I said, how much money does the owner actually have to burn!? Does he think people will immediately buy the product as soon as it is introduced? Is it really that simple?? I'm a little worried (not that I'm afraid I couldn't sell well, but that the owner doesn't understand what "international trade" is)!!
Interview advice:
Basically, because I noticed that everything online was in Chinese and the Facebook page also only had Chinese-language introductions, I finally asked him whether they were starting from zero for exports. He honestly said: "Yes!"
For experienced people with experience developing the US market, you should of course be able to do this job well, so you could go listen to what they have to say and give it a try! I can't say that I wouldn't be able to handle this job, because business development is something salespeople all have to do! It's just a question of whether the owner himself understands the field of "international trade". Does he know how much expenditure will be required afterward? Does he know how high the marketing costs are?
I asked whether the products had test reports, any persuasive proof, or substantive videos, etc. He said that you could immediately see the results after using them, and asked why they should wait for test reports—wouldn't that be too late?!! (Just hearing that sentence, I knew... "Here is another owner who has never done international trade!") Eastern and Western ways of thinking really are different!!! A frog in a well!!
I feel that he doesn't really understand it... Because based on the interview, my impression was that he thought it would be as simple as the domestic market; and I'm not new to the workforce!
Also, I filled in my "desired compensation," but he didn't ask about it or mention anything about the company's internal staff, benefits, conditions, or anything else! We ended with him saying: "I'll think it over and consider it again, and give you an answer in about a week."
At that point, I actually already had a pretty good idea of the outcome! ^^"
