1. The interview lasted approximately more than three hours. A large portion of the time was spent looking through past catalogs (supposedly to learn about the industry and the company); the remaining time was spent listening to the boss chat, and salary and days off were only discussed at the end.
2. During the interview, the boss kept leaving to handle other matters. (Though the interview did last more than three hours.)
3. The position interviewed for was “Handcraft Designer.” The job description given during the interview was: “Making the samples shown in the catalogs—in other words, producing the content.” “Sometimes, teachers’ workshops (handcraft instruction) are held on weekends.”
4. Working hours are 9:00–18:00 on weekdays, with work every other Saturday. (However, there is no overtime pay, which violates Taiwan’s one fixed day off and one flexible rest day policy.) It was not discussed whether there is a one-hour lunch break. (I had assumed there would be one, since that would make the daily working hours exactly eight hours.)
5. The boss did not say whether the applicant was hired, but only asked the applicant to come in the following Monday to try working. (There was no way to know whether the position was actually full-time.)
