Pros

The boss speaks very directly

Cons

Work at least 12 hours or more every day

Basically, if you don't understand something, you can ask, although in practice, there is still no answer even after asking

No overtime pay; a responsibility-based work system

A music festival is held once every two years

Occasionally required to work overtime or supervise work on Saturdays and Sundays

You need to be mentally prepared; the supervisor's mood changes greatly, so you must always be ready to adapt

Pros

The following will refer to “your company” as Bodejie Design Company, because your company is extremely distinguished and noble, just as your director originally said: “We are a design company that has won the Red Dot Design Award.” Therefore, there could be no more suitable way to address you than “your esteemed company.”

Cons

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to interview with your company. At the time, I had graduated only a year earlier and did not have extensive work experience, so I humbly and gratefully accepted the low salary and position offered by your company. On my first day of employment, your company did not ask me to provide any identification documents for enrollment in the labor and health insurance required for employees’ basic rights, which violated the Labor Standards Act. Moreover, despite understanding and knowing my work experience and abilities, instead of stating during the interview that I was unsuitable and rejecting my application, your company spent my first day of employment repeatedly criticizing my work abilities. At the time, I was skilled in illustration, but your company’s director told me that illustration skills were nothing special and that many illustrations could simply be found in image libraries—effectively implying that illustrators had little value. The director then repeatedly emphasized that your company was a design company that had won the Red Dot Design Award, while loudly berating me and asking whether I was worthy of your company. I was genuinely shocked. I had never before been berated by an employer for such a long time in that tone and manner. While working overtime into the evening, I was continuously shouted at and harshly berated at the company for several hours. The exact same situation happened again throughout the entire next workday. I had never encountered anything like this before, so I was deeply shaken and unable to withstand such an emotionally unrestrained attack. Before the end of the workday, the person in charge of your company, who was also the director, directly told me not to come back the next day. They never apologized for the personal attacks against me, and after I had worked for two days, your company did not pay me a single cent. This also violated the Labor Standards Act.

Afterward, I worked with various domestic and international companies and clients. The salaries and compensation they offered me were all far higher than the amount your company had originally offered. More importantly, not a single company director or owner berated people in this way. Everyone communicated calmly and was willing to discuss matters reasonably. Secondly, I did not doubt myself or give up on design because of your company’s verbal criticisms at the time. The companies and clients I subsequently worked with never questioned my abilities; in fact, I received praise to varying degrees and continued to improve myself.

All I can say is that treating employees this way not only makes it impossible to retain staff, but is also highly unprofessional. Failing to enroll me in labor and health insurance on my first day, failing to pay me for two days of work, and dismissing me unlawfully were all serious problems. I hope to share this experience at your company so that future designers with less experience can take it into consideration when making their own evaluations.

No matter how capable your company is, or how strongly it emphasizes that it is a design company that has won the Red Dot Design Award, it has neither the qualification nor the right to treat employees this way. There should be equality in the workplace, and employees have the right to report violations. How you treat people and conduct yourself is far more important than your work abilities. No matter how talented you may be, treating employees with such an attitude is beneath professional standards, and I will not consider you professional.

Pros

None at all

Cons

There are no holidays; you’ll be lucky to get three days off a month. Working more than 12 hours a day is the norm, yet the pay is extremely low—about 22,000–24,000 after overtime pay is included. You’d be better off working part-time at a convenience store than working here.

You also have to put up with the boss’s hysterical temper. If the weather is hot or the air conditioning isn’t cold enough, that can be another reason for you to get chewed out. The boss may even hurl the most offensive profanity at you. Unless you’re looking to cultivate your patience and composure, this workplace is highly unrecommended.
