Cons

1. This is a used-car dealership that holds auctions, located in a triangular corner space at an intersection, roughly 50 ping (about 165 square meters). Basically, it consists of an office, a reception room, and a meeting room. The interview was scheduled with the company for around 6 p.m. When I arrived, there were already 3–5 job applicants scattered around those spaces, “filling out résumés.” They had made no effort whatsoever to stagger the interviewees.

2. On top of making us “fill out a résumé,” the contents were even more outrageous. In addition to our phone number, ID number, and address, we also had to write down the “salary details” of the companies we had previously worked for. They also wanted to know our “family circumstances”—we had to write down what jobs our fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters did, and how much they earned.

3. Since I had already come all that way—and had ridden for 35 minutes—I still politely said, “I’ve finished filling it out; the blank sections are the parts I don’t want to write.” Yet they insisted that I wait until the applicants who had arrived “earlier” had finished filling out their information before they would interview me. I was already thinking of leaving, and was planning to take that “résumé” with me, when they finally said they would have another man interview me.

4. The interview itself was fairly decent. The man looked at my portfolio and seemed quite satisfied. He also mentioned that they wanted to run a YouTube channel, and asked how the photos they had taken previously could be optimized.

5. After we had talked for quite a while, another woman said that she could interview me. I was completely bewildered—hadn’t I already been interviewed?

6. She took me to the office next door and immediately said that taking this job would be “underutilizing my talents.” I was curious: wasn’t I applying for an “automotive photography” position? Although, in addition to photography, I can indeed also help plan and establish a YouTube channel, saying that would be underutilizing my talents seemed like a huge exaggeration. After asking more questions, I learned that what they were actually looking for was a “sales assistant” who also knew photography. In reality, most of the time would be spent helping the sales assistants “move cars.” I was utterly stunned when I heard that. It definitely wasn’t suitable for me, so I politely said that they could contact me again if they had any related professional needs in the future, asked them to return the “résumé” I had filled out earlier, and left immediately.
