Pros

The résumé I submitted was for Brand Promotion Specialist (No Experience Required) – Xinzhuang Store.

On 104, the job description for Bright International Co. was divided into three departments.

However, the job duties did not specify the department (except for the lottery section, which did).

It was only after the interview and a one-day trial that I found out it was the automotive detailing wax division.

Whether you apply for Brand Promotion Specialist or Sales Promotion Specialist, the work is basically the same.

Both are sales jobs.

There is only one product: a water-based wax (product name: Purewax).

The current sales locations are gas stations in Taipei, New Taipei, Yilan, and Taoyuan (mainly CPC franchise stations).

They call their company Optimo; Bright is being used as a shell company, and they say it will later become independent.

They claim to be a multinational company with 25 years of history (but I could not find much information about it).

Simply put, this is a direct-sales company with an upline/downline structure.

The head of the direct-sales operation is Malaysian.

The current headquarters is in Shulin District (in an area generally regarded as being in the Sanxia region).

The Xinzhuang (Huilong) location is the second branch.

Taoyuan is the third branch.

After passing the assessment and becoming a team leader, you can be promoted to manager once your organization reaches a certain size, and become an independent branch.

The person who interviewed me was a very energetic 21-year-old.

The location was on the second floor of a lottery shop (there is a staircase inside the lottery shop leading upstairs).

The interview was very quick and ended in less than 10 minutes.

They did not ask many questions.

They also did not explain much about the job.

They simply asked whether I could come in for two hours of on-the-job observation and a trial.

The hours were 10:00 to 12:00 (the company starts work at 9:00 and holds a motivational meeting, which often runs past 10:00, leaving newcomers waiting around on the first floor of the lottery shop).

During the two-hour observation period,

the team leader will teach you the work and chat with you.

After the observation period,

they will ask whether you can come to work.

The official seven-day trial period then begins.

During the morning meetings and trial period, they teach you the sales script.

Basically, once you memorize the sales process and script in a day, you can start selling.

The rest involves familiarity, fluency, handling situations on the spot, attitude, confidence, sincerity, and so on.

You make minor adjustments according to your personal style.

The above is the explanation.

One additional advantage:

You do not need to stock products, and you can learn a set of highly distilled sales lines lasting about one and a half minutes very quickly.

Cons

1. Seven-day trial period

Seven working days: Monday through Friday, followed by the next Monday and Tuesday.

The pay is NT$5,000, which works out to only a little over NT$700 per day.

2. A typical day

Officially, working hours are 9:00–17:30.

You gather at the company at 9:00 and hold the motivational meeting.

After 10:00, you leave for various gas stations (two or three people per station; nearby stations are reached by scooter, while distant ones are reached by taxi or a coworker’s car. If you provide your own car for company use, you receive a daily fuel subsidy of NT$300).

After arriving at the gas stations, you prepare for work and start selling the water-based wax.

At 17:30, you finish at the gas station and go home.

However—and this is the important “however”—

You have to return to the company on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you can go straight home).

You still finish work at 17:30 and must return to the company from the gas station to hand over the money (the day’s water-based wax sales revenue).

Some gas stations are very far away, so you will easily arrive back at the company after 18:00.

And when you return to the company, there is often no one there (the others may be stationed even farther away).

The purpose of this is unclear.

3. After passing the trial period, you find out that this is a position with no base salary: you are paid according to your sales.

One set of wax sells for NT$990, and your commission is NT$250. You earn according to how much you sell each day. Wages are settled weekly and paid in cash.

4. The product’s effects are mediocre. Some customers think the product is terrible, while others think it is very good (I personally feel that the product is not worth this price).

5. The gas stations rotate, and you do not find out which gas station you will be assigned to until that morning.

Many gas stations have already been saturated with sales attempts.

Many customers have already bought it, so it is difficult to sell to them a second time.

However, there are also customers who have bought it before and still want to purchase it for their own use.

6. The gas stations are very sunny.

Although there are roofs, many gas stations are exposed to the afternoon sun, making it hot and glaring.

7. Your income depends on the weather.

You can still make sales on rainy days,

but performance is generally worse.

8. After passing the trial period, they begin pressuring and indoctrinating you.

You are expected to sell seven sets a day. If you do not reach the target, you have to work overtime and keep selling; finishing at 17:30 will not be the norm.

You work Saturdays. To be promoted to team leader, you must sell seven sets on four days each week, and you keep pushing on Saturdays.
