Pros

I also get up early on weekends 😊

Cons

A long-term care facility invited me for an interview, but it turned out it wasn’t even open on Saturday…

Pros

I work as a graphic designer, and the manager who was supposedly famous for having a temper on Voldemort’s level seems to have been gone for quite a while. At least, I’ve never seen him. The new manager is very nice and has a good temper, and the president and directors are also fairly normal (usually, their work doesn’t intersect with the graphic designer’s anyway).

There are fewer people in the company, so there’s less infighting. However, perhaps because of the overall atmosphere, everyone stays quiet, and when there’s nothing to do, you’ll really feel like falling asleep.

Normally, everyone clocks out at 6 p.m. and goes straight home. Overtime is rare. Occasionally, when there are events on Saturdays or Sundays, you can come in and help out in exchange for additional paid leave.

The company is going through a period of transition and has relatively little work. For a capable graphic designer, there should be plenty of free time to secretly work on your own things—just don’t make it too obvious (probably).

Cons

Whether the salary is good depends on the person. For someone just starting out, NT$24,000 is fairly acceptable, I guess. I resigned voluntarily before finishing the probation period, so I don’t know how much it would have increased.

You’re probably expected to help with video editing as well. If you don’t know how, you’ll probably just have to bite the bullet, Google it, and give it a shot.

One executive sometimes makes more mysterious requests that happen to overlap with the graphic designer’s work, such as designing a logo or designing a wine bottle (I created a 3D model, but it wasn’t ultimately used).

Like graphic designers at most companies, you occasionally make arts and crafts projects.

The company places importance on appearances. Because the work area is right by the entrance, you can only wear a shirt, dress pants, and leather shoes. Later, T-shirts were issued as uniforms; I don’t know whether they’ll switch back to white shirts.

There’s a political aspect to the company. The president is a retired legislator, and you’ll get scolded if you’re not polite enough. Apparently, the graphic designer before last was reprimanded for not greeting a visitor (one of the president’s guests was a former head of a government ministry).

Although there seem to be a lot of rules, as long as you greet visitors, you generally won’t have any problems.

Grateful to the boss, praise the boss

Being paid one person's salary while being used as ten thousand people

Graphic designer, HR, administration, shipping, switchboard operator, and scapegoat all rolled into one

It really is a great company

Cons

Thanks to my supervisor, after leaving and joining a new company, my temper became so good that I could practically be called Buddha. Much appreciated.

Pros

The air conditioning is very cold

Cons

The manager's temper is terrible—at Voldemort level. When asked to call vendors back, he frequently yells, “Can't you see I'm busy?” even though he clearly isn't doing anything. After dumping a pile of work outside my responsibilities on me, he soon starts shouting, “How long are you going to take?” A single item gets revised more than 20 times because the information provided at the beginning was wrong. It's almost always like this, requiring the entire thing to be redone two or three times. Does he think other people's time is worthless? During revisions, he may even pull up a chair, sit beside you, and stare at you until you're done. Previously, he would call after work, even after 9 p.m. at night. It's damn ridiculous—I'm only a graphic designer; is there any need for me to be on call after work? Fortunately, I've already left. Staying at a company like this would only damage your self-esteem, and the pay isn't even that good.
