台灣奧樂股份有限公司
Pros

Interviewed in 2016.

The company was established in March 2016. At the time, it had only one designer, one design supervisor (Japanese, unable to speak Chinese and only able to speak basic English), and one liaison, as well as a three-person department that was still looking for business.

The work was broad, primarily focused on design, but also required market research and miscellaneous administrative tasks when necessary. Design work mainly involved web advertising and promotional materials. There was no regular printing partner, so one had to be found independently.

Clients were in Japan’s and Taiwan’s soft-goods industries (clothing, food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics).

This company was a Japanese branch in Taiwan, a startup established in 2016, with multiple other locations in mainland China, Europe, Southeast Asia, and elsewhere. The company had no sales department; work was provided by sales staff in mainland China or Japan, or came from regular orders in Taiwan.

There was a practical test, which I only found out about on the day. I had to create a square banner for a clothing brand.

Advantages

1. Clean and quiet.

2. The interviewer seemed organized.

3. They notified me whether I was accepted, but I only received the notification one month after the interview.

Cons

1. If you do not speak Japanese and your English is not good, it is difficult to communicate with the supervisor.

2. The job responsibilities were not very clear; I only knew it involved design. Because projects were assigned by overseas sales staff, they were not clear about them either. They said the work would be roughly DM-type materials and online advertising and promotional materials.

3. The liaison conducted the interview and introduced the company. Partway through the interview, they asked a designer to come in and ask questions together. The designer then discussed the desired salary with me.
