After emailing my résumé on 6/12, I called the Taipei office on 6/14 to confirm whether the company had received it. I was told that HR was on a business trip to the Philippines and would get back to me. (However, the company website states that the HR representative is Filipino, so it is reasonable to infer that she is based in the Philippines rather than on a business trip.)
On 6/17, I received an email in English from the HR representative in the Philippines inviting me to a video interview via Zoom the following day. Since I had other work commitments the next day, I asked whether we could reschedule to 6/20. HR said she was available at 12:30 p.m. on the 20th. I specifically asked whether this would interfere with her lunch break, but received no response, so I scheduled the interview for 6/20.
On 6/20, I waited from 12:30 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. without receiving any information. Since the other party has to send an invitation before I can enter the Zoom meeting room, I emailed HR at 12:40 p.m., but still received no response.
Then, at 1:16 p.m., I suddenly received an email from HR saying that the building was conducting a fire drill and asking whether the interview could be rescheduled to 4 p.m. the following afternoon.
To be honest, it is disappointing that an e-commerce company could be so unpunctual and unreliable. Candidates have to rearrange their work schedules for interviews, and I was very polite in asking about and coordinating the interview time. Regardless of the financial loss caused by repeatedly rearranging my work schedule, the result was that I was stood up that day and then asked to postpone the interview for another day. Is this really the kind of company that treats its employees well and can be called a happy workplace? Does this not run contrary to the founder’s title on the company website: “Chief Happiness Officer”?
