Pros

1. Most people were quite kind to me.

2. There were office snacks (I never tried them) and malt drinks.

Cons

1. The job posting said it was an internship, but after I started, my title became part-time worker. During the interview, they repeatedly emphasized that I would learn a lot, but the actual work was really just running errands: watering the many plants every morning, wiping tables, and vacuuming the floor. I had to make tea for customers, and if they had drunk only half a cup, I had to go in and refill it. When customers were leaving, I had to open the door for them immediately and then wait for them to leave so I could go in and wipe the table. The specialist would also ask me from time to time to buy milk for religious offerings and pick up fallen leaves.

2. The specialist mentioned above constantly bullied and made things difficult for me. Although my lunch break was unpaid, they still monitored whether I was going to the convenience store downstairs or somewhere else, and they even secretly wore my leather shoes.

3. When I said that my health was really too poor to continue and that I wanted to resign, they did everything they could to prevent me from leaving. They told me to find someone to replace me "myself" and kept asking me to post recruitment messages in my school's Facebook group to find someone. Apart from my own posts, they did not publish the vacancy anywhere, saying they did not want to spend money posting this kind of part-time job on 104.

4. At first, the general manager was very encouraging when I said I wanted to learn other foreign languages. But when they asked me to extend my work schedule from three days a week and I declined because I needed to prepare for certification exams, they said that other languages were useless except as hobbies, and that learning English well was enough.

5. They really, really, really would not let me leave. In the half month after I submitted my resignation, I saw only two people come for interviews, even though many people had submitted résumés. They did not want anyone too young, anyone who had not graduated, or men. Their interview arrangement was to schedule one person at a time and only look for the next person if that did not work out. How long was this supposed to take?

6. During the interview, they said they had scheduled many, many people for interviews over those two weeks. But after I started, I checked the visitor log and found that apart from me, there had only been one other person. Where were all the others?

7. At noon, part-time workers had to go out and buy boxed lunches for everyone (unpaid). Later, I avoided this because I started bringing my own lunch.

8. They agreed that I only needed to work until the end of the month, but the next day they asked whether I could stay until they found someone to hand over my duties to. With this kind of interview process, who would dare stay until a handover was arranged? I used having tutoring sessions scheduled as an excuse to decline, but they still kept pressuring me.

Cons

1. Salary is not paid until the 15th of the following month.

2. The boss is extremely superstitious about Tibetan Buddhism. The company holds religious ceremonies, the meeting room tables must be wiped with “wealth-attracting water” every day, and an applicant’s photo and birth details must first be given to a lama teacher for divination before the applicant can be interviewed.

3. The office is equipped with a surveillance system, leaving employees with no privacy.

4. The boss teaches administrative staff to compete and feud with the sales team.

5. The boss allegedly has many, many women outside the relationship.

Cons

1. The boss is very good at painting grand visions and is a master of bluffing.

2. Lies openly; the insured salary bracket is based only on the minimum wage standard, with no overtime pay.

3. Salary deductions for leave are calculated by dividing the monthly salary by the number of working days, rather than by 30 days.
