Pros

I can't think of any advantages.

Cons

1. The company withholds employees' pay. Even though payday is supposedly the 15th, payment can still be delayed until the end of the month.

2. There is clearly a shortage of staff, yet the company continues opening new stores, making employees take on more work.

3. There are essentially no benefits. Even good performance does not result in bonuses.

4. Operations are disorganized, and goods from the factory often vary in quality. It doesn't seem like a large company.

5. If you want to learn skills related to the food and beverage industry, you really should not join this company, because very few people—if any—actually understand coffee or food and beverage service.

6. The company has committed many violations and has made no improvements.

Pros

Suitable for beginners

Cons

Xiaot樽 Handmade Coffee

The Pasta Bar

Galleria Western Cuisine

Amao Stone-Pot Risotto

Amao Tea Room

All of these are operated by the same selfish and greedy boss, Mr. Lin. The company registrations can all be looked up. He is stingy, greedy, and knowingly violates the law. The Taipei City Government's published list of business entities and business owners violating the Labor Standards Act can be checked, but an inspection may only be conducted if the person concerned files a report.

Almost everyone who remains there is like this: they try to take advantage of break times, overtime pay, working hours, and your clock-out time.

I have also seen them pressure the accounting and general affairs staff to provide support at Xiaot樽 Coffee on weekdays and holidays—mostly holidays. In short, they never hire enough people, and of course they never have enough staff.

If you want to exchange your time for more money, you can go, but the extra hours are not paid as overtime; they are all off the books.

The Xiaot樽 Handmade Coffee where I worked:

The raises and bonuses promised during the interview never materialized. The money in the tip box would decrease, but you would not receive any of it.

They simply want to squeeze you dry.

For hourly part-time work, when it is busy, they make you add hours; when it is not busy, they make you leave early.

During the pandemic, they laid off employees from the other stores,

and still required them to support the factory.

At first, they may treat you well, but gradually it actually becomes centered around the store manager, followed by her family and friends. Yet she will say that she treats everyone very well—she says it so much that she even believes it herself.

They will also pressure you to resign voluntarily, while finding all kinds of faults with you and scolding you.

Pros

No pros.

If your mindset is to learn, I think you could stay. But if you are considering career advancement, salary, and benefits, it’s best not to have high hopes.

Cons

1. During the interview, they said overtime would be paid at the hourly rate for part-time workers. After I joined, there was no overtime pay, and I was forced to accept compensatory leave. Not to mention the three-holiday bonuses, performance bonus, and year-end bonus listed on the job website (let’s set aside the “depending on operating conditions” caveat)—none of them existed at all.

2. As soon as I joined, I discovered that all the experienced employees were about to leave. The staff shortage has continued ever since. There are seven stores in total, but only a little over ten full-time employees. The boss has no intention of hiring more full-time staff, believing that hiring too many would waste money and that part-time workers are more cost-effective. So you are constantly working all over the place. Store managers hardly get eight days off a month, and full-time employees are worked to exhaustion. Because there are not enough staff, taking compensatory leave is very difficult.

3. The company’s internal systems are extremely chaotic, and no one handles personnel matters. The boss hired some incompetent back-office staff who are ineffective and make decisions extremely slowly. The boss also disappears from time to time and cannot be reached, and has a habit of dragging things out.

4. The starting salaries for full-time employees are all somewhat different, and there is no standard for raises. During the interview, they said there would be a performance review every three months, but that never happened. I worked there for almost a year, and the company eventually established performance review standards. I took part and performed well, but the matter was eventually dropped without result.

5. After six months, the company hoped that you would take over as manager of a new store. Two months later, you would receive only a NT$1,000 raise, and your pay would still be lower than that of full-time employees who had just joined.
