Pros

As others mentioned in the previous review, the interviewer was reasonable and courteous.

Cons

- Although this was an administrative position, they asked many questions, which was exhausting.

- Before the interview, they said there would be a simple self-introduction in English. During the interview, however, after I finished introducing myself in English, the entire interview switched to English.

- During the interview, they repeatedly emphasized that the CEO places great importance on work-life balance, so no one works overtime. However, this position was being recruited for the first time, and the work involved completing customers’ top-up/withdrawal requests that day. Neither the interviewer nor I really knew whether overtime would be required, so I asked whether, under normal circumstances, customers’ requests could all be completed before the end of the workday.

He was indeed not sure either, but ultimately said that situations in which requests could not be completed were rare.

- When I applied, they had already said that there would be no overtime.

During the interview, however, they said that I would occasionally have to help check accounts on holidays.

At the time, I was focused on listening to what he said next and forgot to ask.

After the interview, I emailed to ask:

“May I ask how frequently I would need to help check accounts on holidays?

Would it take a long time?

Could it be checked during working hours instead?

Thank you.”

Over time is required from time to time for any position. As I mentioned, I can't promise there will be No over time.

If you have so much concern, I am not sure if it is a good fit for you.

Thanks for your interest.

They were being argumentative and evasive; I was simply trying to understand the working conditions by asking.

Argumentative. Evasive.

I replied:

I can do overtime; I simply want to understand the circumstances regarding the questions I asked.

- Normally, will customer requests be completed within business hours?

- The frequency and working hours on weekends.

See, I am very cooperative and willing to understand the details. If it is rare, and you are willing to arrange some work during normal working days, I can accept it.

However, it seems we are not on the same page.

Thank you for your time.

Good luck.

- The interviewer was not my direct supervisor; the direct supervisor was in Finance.

However, during the interview, when I asked whether I could speak with my direct supervisor, he only said that she was very busy and that, because his rank was higher, he could make the decision directly. I had no way of knowing whether I would be a good fit with the supervisor.

Pros

The interviewer (the only manager in Taiwan) was reasonable and courteous in conversation.

Cons

The office is a “shared office,” meaning the company subleases part of a spacious, undivided floor together with a bunch of other companies; it is somewhat old. The company represents foreign English-teaching courses. I originally applied for an engineering position. There are only a few people in Taiwan responsible for the representation—probably three or four in total (according to the manager). The engineer’s duties would involve assisting the manager with maintaining existing servers, managing the platform, and communicating and coordinating with relevant personnel to handle platform issues. I was not hired at the time, but several months later I still saw that the position was posted.
