Cons

This company is really interesting.

They sent me a notification asking me to interview for an accounting position.

When I went in, there were two interviewers.

They explained the job responsibilities unclearly and kept hesitating and evading questions.

I still had not figured out what the job entailed by the time I left.

However, since my work is in accounting and I really did not plan to join them,

I did not ask too many detailed questions.

I asked for a salary of at least NT$35,000.

They said that I could only ask for that much because my previous job had been a position with complete responsibility and no overtime limits.

Their accounting work was not that difficult.

I asked: “May I ask what your company’s expectations are?”

He said: “In the twenty-thousands, or just over thirty thousand—probably just over thirty thousand.”

I said: “My current salary is about the same amount, and I also receive additional bonuses, so perhaps… um…”

Then he dodged the question.

Finally, he said that if I was confirmed as hired, the official salary would be written in the hiring notification.

Everything was still fine up to that point.

The interesting part was when I asked him:

I asked: “May I ask whether this salary includes perfect-attendance bonuses and the like? My current job includes bonuses in the base salary.”

He did not seem to think there was anything wrong with that.

He replied: “It includes everything.”

I confirmed once again:

I asked: “Do you mean that the salary of NT$30,000 includes bonuses and the perfect-attendance bonus?”

He said: “Yes.”

Basically, I had completely ruled it out by this point.

I recommend that everyone interviewing for a job really ask what is included in the salary.

What matters most is how much you actually take home.
