On Friday morning, under the blazing sun and with nearby motorcycle parking difficult to find, I finally managed to arrive at the company for my interview on time. After waiting a few minutes, however, I was told that the supervisor was “out attending a meeting.” Before I left, the receptionist said that HR would arrange another appointment with me. Then, when I returned to work on Monday, I received an email from HR—not with a new interview time, but saying, “We’ve already found someone. Sorry to have made you come all this way for nothing.”
I have no idea what this company’s HR department was thinking. Clearly, there was a problem with HR’s communication when a job applicant was stood up for an interview. Yet I never saw the HR representative from beginning to end—not even an apology in person. Then, after the weekend, they sent an email saying they had already found someone. All I can say is that this company has a lot of room for improvement when it comes to respecting and treating job applicants well. If the tables were turned and an applicant stood up the supervisor, would HR still dare to be so careless?
