There is a lot of work content and it is very disorganized, with high turnover.
You are basically expected to get up to speed immediately when you start work. There is no honeymoon period—you learn as you go, but there may not necessarily be anyone to teach you. Even people with many years of export shipping experience find it difficult to get the hang of it.
The work you take over may not be clearly handed over. Even when you ask questions, you may not necessarily get any clear answers, and then you will be scolded if you make a mistake.
The boss/boss's wife will keep urging you about progress and follow-ups, while customers keep changing the order shipping methods and quantities. You spend two-thirds of the day just adjusting these documents, and then another one-third solving the supervisors' various “why” questions... so you cannot leave work on time.
Basically, international trade, shipping, and accounting are all the same job, with occasional business development duties.
