Pros

The factory meals are pretty good, which I suppose counts as a benefit.

Cons

The Dongguan factory is called Jinmei and makes golf club heads. The owner is the third generation of a factory-owning family and studied in Canada, but his management style is no different from that of Taiwanese bosses decades ago. There are hardly any standards at work; basically, whatever the boss likes goes. As a result, the atmosphere in the factory is extremely oppressive, with everyone trying to guess what the boss is thinking.

The sales department operates the same way: whoever is higher-ranking is always right.

The sales assistant general manager gives unclear instructions, and sometimes withholds data and documents. Even when asked, they are often evasive or indifferent. If something goes wrong, it is simply blamed on you for not caring or asking.

The English-speaking sales manager cannot even spell the days of the week correctly in English, so her English clearly needs improvement. Some skills can only be handled by her. For example, she is the only one who can prepare quotations, but you are expected to prepare the cost calculations properly; if there is a problem, you are blamed for not caring. Some clients can only be contacted by her, yet she can put off her own responsibilities indefinitely without anyone saying anything. There are countless similar examples.

The boss is very good at saving money, so as an English-speaking PM, you are also expected to manage Japanese projects. When reporting to the company, transportation expenses are not reimbursed, and you have to pay for your own airfare.

Every month, employees have to pay 393 yuan in social insurance contributions, but when the boss fires people, he does not follow the labor regulations applicable in Guangdong. Regardless of whether you have passed probation, if he no longer wants you, he simply demands that you leave as soon as possible, without even observing the most basic legal requirements. As a result, Taiwanese employees sometimes suddenly disappear. According to incomplete statistics, within one year the HR manager, production control manager, quality assurance manager, and English-speaking PM were all dismissed; from being told to leave to moving out of the company dormitory took only a few days, or even happened on the same day.

It might be okay if you just want to go there for the experience, but if you want to stay for a long time or even accomplish anything, forget it.
