Although I don't know the interviewer's position—female, I suppose, which is fairly neutral—the moment I saw the act of haggling over the salary, I felt extremely disrespected. They also hadn't looked at the work in my portfolio or my résumé before the interview.
The position title was e-commerce staff,
but it felt like they were actually looking for a supervisor.
Interviewer: I think the salary you wrote is too high (I wrote 36K; I already have experience in e-commerce).
Would 28K work for you? I'll ask the boss.
(So they're not even the boss. That made me feel even worse.)
(Black-and-white question marks… Then the salary range you posted on the job bank was 30K–40K. Can I sue you for fraud…?)
I felt extremely disrespected.
This was the first time I've encountered someone like this in an interview.
