This page collects workplace experiences, questions and discussions submitted by users. Dates shown are submission dates, not periods of employment. Individual reports do not describe the entire company.
Read the community guidelines1. Punctual working hours. Even supervisors completely avoid the old-fashioned publishing-industry notion that “working overtime is the norm in publishing.”
2. A streamlined hierarchy. Because the company is small, it avoids the situation common in large companies where a new idea, after being reported through multiple layers and subjected to the opinions of various managers, ultimately turns into something unrecognizable. The decision-makers are close to the people responsible for actual execution, so barring surprises, decisions are usually made quickly and accurately.
3. The standard benefits include 15 company-published books per year, while each employee receives one issue of National Geographic magazine per month.
Please do not apply with the expectation of receiving an annual bonus.
The company has not paid an annual bonus for two years, which is a significant blow to salaried employees.
The publishing industry’s average compensation is particularly low,
and for people in the industry, the best time for the number in their savings account to increase is when they receive their annual bonus.
This means that without an annual bonus,
there is virtually no net increase in their savings.
If this is important to you, please do not apply to this company.
That is beneficial for both sides:
first, you will not have to spend the New Year feeling disheartened;
second, the company will not have to bear the costs of losing and recruiting talent.
1. The environment is bright and spacious
2. Tea and water are prepared for applicants
3. The questions are focused, emphasizing the interviewee’s experience and qualities without asking about matters unrelated to the job
4. The job responsibilities and internal collaboration methods are explained in detail
5. There is no culture of working overtime
6. Unsuccessful applicants are notified with a thank-you letter
Overall, the interview process felt quite good. If I had to mention one area for improvement,
it would be that there was a wait of about 5 minutes after checking in before the interview started.
