The boss and his wife were unwilling to share profits. Until I left, they never paid the project bonuses that had been promised to the engineers for many years, and the sales staff also received no bonuses.
Sometimes the boss and the consultant would argue very loudly in the open-plan office, although they both said they were not arguing. Nevertheless, it had a significant impact on the atmosphere and morale at work.
In order to secure clients’ projects, despite having only 8–9 engineers, they told clients that the team was large and had many engineers, and that the project schedule could be met. Employees appeared to be able to leave work at a normal time, but in reality they worked overtime at home to write code and rush to complete projects.
The year-end bonus was also inconsistent, and it was unclear how performance was calculated.
