Pros

I worked as an engineer at this company, using Classic ASP + HTML + JavaScript (including jQuery and AJAX).

Basically, working hours and other estimates were calculated after taking each person’s abilities into consideration, so we wouldn’t still be working after hours to finish everything.

Moreover, I learned how to write Classic ASP here, as well as how to develop both the front end and back end of websites.

There was no backstabbing or office politics among colleagues in the department.

Because it operates Taiwan’s largest travel information system, some of its clients are well-known names, so I was able to learn solid know-how about the travel industry.

Cons

A common problem in the travel-related industry: salaries.

This also resulted in a high employee turnover rate (specifically in the engineering department).

Within one year after I left, fewer than 30% of the engineer colleagues I had known were still there, and during that period both the department manager and deputy manager had left.

The engineering department was generally young, with quite a few recent graduates and relatively few people with many years of work experience.

The products I worked with had a visual design that felt very outdated.

(This was because the product had already been in development for many years and had many users, so its design style could not be changed rashly—not because the company did not want to change it.)

There were no documented development standards for engineers.

There was no requirement to use—or emphasis on using—new technologies; the priority was delivering results that met customer needs.

However, this is probably the same at any company. If you are interested in technology, you should also continue learning on your own.

The experience described above may not reflect the company’s current situation. Please make your own judgment after the interview.
