Pros

The colleagues are all very nice and look out for one another.

Cons

It is a family-owned business. The person mainly running the company is the younger boss (the boss’s son), who likes taking on all sorts of projects indiscriminately. Although he is relatively easy to talk to, he tends to make grand promises and say one thing but do another.

The senior boss is a neurotic old oddball who likes to sneak up behind you at work to see whether you are working seriously. From time to time, he holds morning meetings where he only says a bunch of nonsense, and whenever something does not suit him, he randomly lashes out at people.

The most important person—the senior boss’s wife—is the one who holds this company together, but many people end up unable to continue working there because of her. She is the one who pays the salaries, and her behavior is difficult to describe. She treats people differently depending on who they are and even looks for loopholes in the Labor Standards Act. At first, she pretends to be nice to you, but later she becomes extremely petty and impossible to communicate with. She even thinks the company’s benefits are excellent (basic labor and health insurance, meal expenses, overtime pay, a Lunar New Year red envelope, eight mooncakes at Mid-Autumn Festival, toilet paper in the restroom, and bottled water), while there is no year-end bonus, perfect-attendance bonus, or holiday bonus. The company also has no promotion system. Salaries are fixed at the base rate unless, after working for a full year, you have the courage to ask for a raise yourself—but the chances of approval are basically very low. You also have to ask for your annual leave before they will grant it……

All I can say is that if you are considering working for this company, you really need to think it through carefully! Although you can learn a lot there, since one person has to take on many different roles.
