Working hours are strictly enforced, but responsibility continues after work. There is no lunch break; you eat while working, which effectively means working 10 hours a day.
There are no consecutive holidays. Sundays are fixed days off, and you have to work a full day on one Saturday each month. Of course, don't even dream of getting paid annual leave.
If you need to take leave unexpectedly, you will still be hassled and subjected to sarcastic remarks.
Those who are able to stay are either afraid to leave because they can't find anything better, or they have simply gotten used to it and become completely numb and unaware.
