This is an unprofitable company. The owner used to treat employees very well, but now it has been taken over by the second generation, who are stingy and harsh toward employees. Salaries are very low. In addition, the company does contract manufacturing, so there are often few orders. When there is little work or nothing to do, employees are still required to do all sorts of miscellaneous tasks. There are no rewards, and supervisors have it even worse: they are required to do more, only to be criticized relentlessly.
Salaries are adjusted about once every four years, and the maximum increase each time is NT$3,000 (only for good performance—in other words, you have to work yourself to death to get it). Year-end bonuses are also given only if they feel like it. They have not paid a year-end bonus for more than 10 years, and even when they do, it is only a few thousand dollars in a token red envelope. As a result, employee turnover is very high.
The company has organized an employee trip only once, a day trip to Kaohsiung and back, visiting some unimportant places. It was truly laughable. The benefits are even worse—there is no group insurance, and employees have to pay out of pocket if they are injured at work.
Now the company is even under the control of sycophants and favorites. There are many people who curry favor and flatter management; they enjoy an easy life, while hardworking and conscientious employees who do not cooperate or do not meet their expectations are singled out as targets and pushed out. The second-generation bosses are no better. They are typical people who blindly believe the slander of sycophants, never verify anything, and love criticizing employees behind their backs, denigrating them completely. If someone does not fit the kind of person they want to employ, they will find a way to get rid of them. Quite a few people have already fallen victim to them. Even capable employees will sooner or later be treated ruthlessly.
On top of that, they like to make themselves sound highly capable, but in reality they are not. Aside from understanding their own products, they know nothing else. When problems involving people need to be handled, they only hide behind the scenes, giving orders and criticizing others like cowards. This is truly a hopeless company.
If you want to gain experience and learn technical skills, it is possible to do so here. After staying for two or three years, however, you should leave. It is not a place suitable for staying until retirement.
