The boss’s secretary was fairly amiable.
1. Located in a very old building at the intersection of Guangfu South Road and Xinyi Road. The elevator is dimly lit, and there is only one. The office environment is even worse—the space is cramped and cluttered.
2. I received a phone call in the morning inviting me to an interview. Since I was out, I hoped to reschedule it for another day, but the other party insisted on scheduling the interview that same afternoon.
3. I applied for a purchasing position, but as soon as I arrived, I was asked to fill out personal information, take a written test (cost estimation), and complete a computer test (Excel pivot tables, which was easy). It was already very time-consuming by that point. Later, the secretary said that the company was expanding into the Philippines, so they added an English logic test, which was an enormous waste of time.
After I finished the tests, I was taken to the boss’s office for an interview. He was very old and extremely opinionated! The following was a truly terrible interview experience:
I graduated at least 15 years ago, and his very first question was why I had not pursued work related to my field of study. He asked this twice in total.
He asked how I would handle tasks at work (finding suppliers, getting the lowest prices, and so on). I shared my experience and approach from previous jobs, but he told me to let go of the past. And he had the nerve to ask why I had not developed my career in a field related to my major—what kind of question is that?
I was looking for a purchasing job, and the interviewer also asked about my purchasing experience, yet he wanted me to do administrative assistant and accounting work.
All of the questions he asked were already answered on my résumé. I was disrespected from beginning to end!
