If you want to work at this company, you need to be extremely subservient. The work atmosphere is very serious.
1. The boss and the boss’s wife are short-tempered. When they speak to you, you have to answer immediately and say, “Yes! Understood!” If you need time to think, the boss’s wife will suddenly lose her temper and ask whether you heard what she said. Even when something is clearly not urgent, they still demand an immediate response.
2. It is basically impossible to leave work on time. Even if you have finished your tasks, you have to pretend to be busy, because no one dares to leave on time. The earliest you can leave is around 5:30 p.m., and overtime pay is not provided.
3. The boss’s wife will criticize you in front of your colleagues and then ask them to come talk to you. She is also very likely to suddenly assign you additional work. Tasks that originally belonged to other colleagues may suddenly be reassigned to you instead (perhaps because they prefer employees who have been there longer—I’m not sure), and then they will say that it was your responsibility all along.
4. The boss often lectures employees about being too focused on their own interests. After I resigned and received my pay, I thought there was a problem with the amount. On the first day, I personally went to the company to ask for my pay statement, but they would not give it to me (even though the other employees had received theirs). On the second day, I called the boss’s wife, and she said she would give it to me later. On the third day, I called again, and she said she would transfer it to the boss in a moment. The boss then told me not to be so focused on my own interests because everyone was busy. When I asked when they would provide it, he said, “At the end of the month,” and hung up immediately. (I only wanted my pay statement—does that really mean I’m being too self-centered?) They eventually sent it only after they saw the LINE chat history between me and my colleague and learned that I had asked the labor bureau how to resolve the issue.
The office air conditioning is cool, and there is no perfect-attendance bonus, so you can take leave without worry.
The government minimum wage applies whether you are an office worker or a laboratory testing staff member: 25–28K, with no perfect-attendance bonus. The boss and the boss’s wife are both in the company office, so you may be scolded at any time.
