Indirect staff have been brainwashed into not claiming overtime pay. Relationships between men and women are complicated, and the company’s business-entertainment culture is extremely annoying.
I work at the old Yangmei plant as an ordinary operator. Although the environment isn’t very good, it’s a decent company. When things are busy, there is a strong emphasis on output, and the work can be somewhat demanding, but we clock in and out on time, without so much unnecessary fuss or delays wasting everyone’s time. The corporate culture is also good; the people above us seem quite friendly. The engineers are nice too, and whenever there’s free time, everyone can chat and mingle together.
The bad part is the people I work with. At the Yangmei plant’s washing station, the local employees on both the day and night shifts are rotten to the core and lazy. The people in charge know what is going on but let them do whatever they want. The presence of these pieces of trash makes it difficult for hardworking people to do their jobs. I think it’s because they have all been around for a long time, so the supervisors just turn a blind eye. When will a positive-minded supervisor appear and get rid of these two pieces of trash? It would be immensely satisfying. The foreign workers are generally easy to get along with.
Because I work in an indirect department, these points mainly concern indirect departments:
1. Working hours are very stable, and overtime is uncommon. Overtime pay is available, and my manager is very reasonable and approves it without a problem.
2. I’ve encountered a very small number of odd people, but most people are fairly easy to get along with. The people I’ve met at FAB have also been nice.
3. The Yangmei plant used to be quite old, but it was renovated and refurbished recently, so the overall environment has improved a lot.
4. The company has recently introduced an employee stock ownership trust. The company subsidizes half of the contribution, and after participating for three years, you can receive shares. It’s reasonably good.
1. Overall annual compensation is not high. Although there are nominally three holiday bonuses, year-end bonuses, bonuses, and the like, the amounts are not substantial, so it is difficult to raise total annual compensation.
2. The process capabilities and yields do not seem to be quite up to standard yet, and there appears to be some gap compared with GlobalWafers and Formosa Sumco farther ahead in the industry.
3. There are no fixed salary adjustments, and promotions are slow.
4. There are many rats at the Longtan plant. You absolutely cannot leave food in your drawer; otherwise, the rats will definitely come to your “home.”
5. Parking spaces at the Longtan plant are routinely occupied by the materials department, resulting in insufficient parking.

The Yangmei plant is really dirty—there are cockroaches everywhere, and the smell is very strong. The restroom is truly disgusting; during work, it gets to the point where it is almost impossible to use it. The older female supervisor’s attitude is really bad. She meddles in too many things. I earn very little each day at work and still have to endure harassment from someone abusing their authority.
