Read the community guidelinesThe interview environment was quite comfortable.
It was in the basement of a building, with very attractive decor. It was unlike some small companies where other people might be able to hear everything during the interview, which can feel a bit uncomfortable.
(However, the lighting was dim, and there was no one around, so it felt a little strange at first.)
At first, I received a phone call saying that the company had openings and asking whether I was interested. I asked what the position was and what the job involved, but the person on the other end could not explain clearly. They only said that the company had many openings and that it would be faster to come in and discuss it directly. (During the call, they went on at length about many other things but never directly answered my questions.)
I had already explained that I did not have much experience and asked whether I could still interview. I wanted to clarify first whether there really was a position matching the requirements before scheduling an interview, so that neither side would waste time.
The person kept saying that I should just come in and talk because there were plenty of openings.
Afterward, I could not find much information about the openings online either. I only knew that the company was on Linsen North Road. It seemed a little strange, so I stopped contacting them.
More than half a month later, I received another call from the same person, who again said there were openings. I confirmed a second time that there really was work I would be able to do before agreeing to an interview.
When the interview finally began, they asked me to fill out very detailed information, including my degree of nearsightedness. (I am not sure whether that was actually necessary for the job, since I genuinely had no idea what positions the company had.)
After I finished filling it out, they surprisingly told me:
“After looking over your information just now, I feel that you might not be able to handle the positions at our company.”
I was completely dumbfounded. The information they looked at was the résumé I had printed from a job bank! Surely they should have reviewed my résumé before calling to invite me to an interview, right?! I had also brought all kinds of certification documents at their request for them to review, only to receive that kind of response. Then they started talking to me about other things, similar to what they had mentioned on the phone—how important and sophisticated their company’s work was, and so on.
In the end, they took back the very detailed form I had filled out. It was only after I left that I realized something was wrong: I should not have given it to them. They were not going to hire me, yet they took my personal information back. But by then it was too late. In short, I just felt that going there had been a waste of time!
