Read the community guidelinesBefore the interview, HR asks you to fill out an extremely detailed résumé form, including “highly private financial information.”
Honestly, it’s really hard to understand why, at a first interview, you have to report your family’s financial situation.
Residence: Is the home you currently live in rented or owned? How much is the rent? How much is the home worth?
Status: In addition to the usual categories, people with disabilities, Indigenous people, and those returning to the workforce, there is also a category for women who are the primary breadwinners of their families.
Family: You are required to provide detailed information about every family member’s job, including the company name, position, job title, and telephone number.
Overtime: You have to indicate whether you agree to work overtime on holidays, whether you agree to work overtime on regular weekdays, and whether you agree to exchange compensatory leave for overtime pay. (I don’t know whether this violates the Labor Standards Act.)
Business trips: There are many opportunities for business trips, and they mention that you can travel to Chishang, Taitung for free. (However, they did not mention overtime pay. The round trip takes 10 hours, and they also did not say whether those 10 hours count as overtime or working hours.)
The office looks like a typical small, local Taiwanese family business. The average age is between 50 and 60, and there seem to be very few young people; it feels as though most of them have only recently joined. The interviewing supervisor said, “The company is a big family, and everyone helps each other.”
During the interview, the supervisors discuss the candidates among themselves through facial expressions and whispers, which makes it feel as though the applicants are not being treated with much respect.
