A pure trading company that works with more than ten factories.
The boss's wife is very emotional and extremely particular about wording, punctuation, and the like. She may email you first over a single word, then ask you to come to the conference room or her office for a meeting to discuss how you could have used that word @@.
Problems in international trade are normal, especially since a pure trading company works with outside factories and is bound to encounter many issues. However, at the slightest hint of trouble, the boss's wife acts as if the sky is falling or the company is about to collapse, shouting hysterically and calling meetings to discuss it.
(For example: You arrange a visit to a new supplier at a certain time, and the new supplier informs you the day before that, for some reason, the meeting will be delayed by half an hour. The boss's wife will shout, “Why did they change it? Didn’t we already agree? We’re giving them business; they should accommodate us!”)
The whole day is spent either in meetings or on the way to meetings, even though the company only has five employees @@
She loves saying, “There isn’t much work for you to do” and “You don’t do very much.”
You have to write a work log every day, documenting everything in painstaking detail. If she thinks the content is too short, she will say, “So you actually do so little?”
Every day, there is a meeting to review the work logs @@
People who suit her preferences or have exceptionally strong emotional resilience should be able to handle the job.
Every day is painful; I go home crying.
Simply put, this is the worst company I have ever encountered. It would be one thing if the owner and his wife had bad tempers, but the personal attacks are extremely serious. I will explain the reasons why I believe the company is bad.
1. The owner’s wife personally attacks employees:
- On one occasion, I wrote an email to the factory. Because the owner’s wife could not understand the content of the email, she criticized me and lost her temper in front of all my colleagues: “What kind of email is this? Did you graduate from university? This is kindergarten-level work!”
- The owner’s wife said: “I know you graduated from a foreign-language department, so your understanding of numbers must be poor. Therefore, you cannot handle numbers.”
- “Your logic is fundamentally flawed! You have no logic!” (in front of the entire company)
2. There are problems with the allocation of work responsibilities:
- Although the position was clearly in marketing and sales, I was required to complete the Chinese-to-English translation of a contract in one afternoon, alone.
3. There are problems with the overtime system:
- Almost the entire company was made to work until around 20:00 because of the owner’s wife’s last-minute assignments, but there was no overtime pay and no compensatory leave.
4. She gave terrible advice before I resigned and complained about the salary I offered.
Overall, I strongly advise against working for this company.
