The person who contacted me for an interview was hiring for a design position. My portfolio wasn’t even finished yet, but they were already eager to invite me to interview. HR also said there would be an in-person practical software test. I couldn’t help wondering: did they really read my résumé? I’ve worked for over 10 years—do they still need to test whether I know how to use the software?
At the time, I only replied that I would provide my portfolio once it was finished. They still insisted on confirming the completion date so they could report it to their supervisor first. In the end, I finished it but didn’t send it to them, because I had heard that the company was a real mess, and the salary they offered was low too. After all, my previous salary at Acer wasn’t particularly low. I’ve also found a job at a foreign company now, with a higher salary than at Acer, and the HR representative and manager I interviewed with were both very professional. By comparison, this company is truly astonishing!
What made me feel that this company’s HR was very unprofessional was that they were in such a hurry to schedule an interview even though my portfolio wasn’t finished. It felt mostly like they were desperate to find someone to fill a 💩 pit. The job posting had apparently been up for a year and still hadn’t been taken down. Also, the interview required a practical software test. That would be understandable for a newcomer, but even people with extensive experience have to take it—are we applying for a job or taking an exam?
I did some online research, and apparently the manager conducting design interviews has a rather arrogant attitude and may publicly embarrass interviewees. In short, if you’re planning to interview for a design position at this company, think twice!
Large company premises, clean 12th floor, and the HR manager seemed like a nice person.
1. I applied for the position of Electronic Hardware R&D Engineer (new graduates are welcome). The manager said that without experience, the salary would not even reach 35K. At other technology companies, such as Wistron, even new hires without experience in non-R&D positions already earn over 35K. I do not recommend this company to recent graduates; the starting salary is relatively low.
2. The manager said the workload is relatively heavy. Four people are needed to complete one laptop, and the job involves coordinating with the software team, reading circuit diagrams, and using drawing software such as Allegro or OrCAD, among others. Most importantly, business trips would total approximately three months per year. I have not agreed yet and am still considering it! Think carefully before applying.
