The interview was conducted by Zongyang Engineering’s HR, but when I actually reported for work, I was told that the company was actually its affiliated company, Dengyang Smart Technology, which then assigned us to outsourced electrical and mechanical maintenance work at the Jingguan Plaza in Wugu. That would have been bad enough, but we also had to work like service-industry staff as parking attendants, exchanging receipts, operating the cash register, and catching people who dined and dashed. Only later did I find out that a lot of cleaning, security, and general affairs work was also being dumped on us. It was absolutely awful! The project manager, Manager Hu, would even hide everyone’s employee ID cards because he was afraid someone would report the unreasonable job duties to the Ministry of Labor. They did not pay overtime. Before the Lunar New Year, they tricked us into coming to work, saying there would be an overtime bonus and that we would also get extra time off. After the New Year, General Manager Hsieh completely went back on his word and did not even dare to face everyone in person. They also falsified the paper attendance records. After I threatened to file a lawsuit, the company administrator was so scared that they quickly resigned. An electrical and mechanical engineering worker was made to clean toilets in a run-down department store, while Manager Hu did not dare stand up for us at all—he just kept deceiving us. Even Zongyang’s HR business representative was spouting nonsense. We later reported them, and it was only right that they were fined. Even now, they still insist on refusing to pay overtime.
