Read the community guidelinesDuring the interview, because it was during the pandemic, the HR department conducted a video interview. They also never mentioned during the interview that the company was a subsidiary of the Xiangjiguang Group. It was completely impossible to tell from 104 either—clearly, they were just waiting to trick you into joining before telling you.
This company is basically all sizzle and no steak. Most of the senior managers are accustomed to the management style of old Taiwanese companies, so even the senior management will say things like, “The SOP is only for reference; actual operations are based on the situation on site”—that kind of nonsense. Even when you follow the SOP, your supervisor will still berate you as an idiot. In the end, no one follows the SOP anymore; as long as the food is edible, that is considered good enough. Their hygiene awareness is also extremely poor. A senior kitchen employee (4–5 years of experience) used their hand to pull a trash can and then immediately handled raw shrimp that was meant to be eaten raw. After I called them out, they even told other coworkers that my standards were too high and that it only needed to be handled a little.
Also, this company—especially the seafood donburi department—basically provides zero learning resources for front-of-house staff. There is no way to work according to the SOP, and the on-site training is inadequate as well; the whole place is a complete mess. When you first join, even the most senior front-of-house server will pretend to be very capable while deliberately holding back and not teaching you everything about the job. If you make a mistake, they will berate you, and they will never admit that their own abilities are lacking, instead pretending to be more capable than they are. They have taken the team-leader exam for two years without passing and have shown no intention of improving themselves. Basically, capable people who can put up with anything for the money can come here. But if you are just starting your career, really do not come here. This place will only keep overturning your understanding of how things should be, and it will not do much good for your life.
