Pros

1. A friend told me that this company was hiring for several positions, so I thought I would learn more by attending an interview.

2. After the interview, I found that the boss is very dedicated to passing on education and training.

3. They provide newcomers with opportunities to learn and grow, as well as encouragement in many areas and opportunities to expand their knowledge.

4. The HR representative was also very friendly.

Pros

1. A great place to develop high emotional intelligence

2. You’ll never have to worry about going hungry. Every day, there are endless snacks (mosquitoes) to eat (hit) as treats.

Cons

1. No matter who you are, get ready to become a wishing well when you come here, because you’ll always have to take on work from every field. You’d better know how to

write academic papers too!?

2. Get ready for a job-hunting experience full of attacks on your very existence, everyone. If you aren’t criticized to your face, you’ll never know how many times you’ve been cursed behind your back.

The experiences are straight out of a bizarre injustice novel, with new grievances piling up every day. What started as the Four Great Injustices has become the Five Great Injustices. At this rate, we could probably make it the Top Ten Great Injustices and publish a novel!?

3. Once you’re here, all job categories are treated the same, without distinction, because you’re expected to be a manager on call 24 hours a day. So no matter what position you apply for, you’ll receive the same treatment—and you must not have any opinions. Otherwise, you’ll really be scolded until you don’t know what hit you.

#There’s honestly far too much that could be said about this place. All I can do is tell you brave warriors: jiābāyō! If you’re not afraid of being attacked over every aspect of your life, and you’re not afraid of having to walk on eggshells every day in everything you do and say, then this is the beautiful new world for you.

Pros

1. It’s quite satisfying to watch the boss chew out an employee who can’t get away, yet thinks they’re very important in the boss’s eyes (when in fact they’re a screw that can be discarded at any time). (Excluding the boss’s family, there’s probably only one employee left in the entire company.)

2. I learned from my days at a black-hearted company.act.

Cons

1. Low pay—really low pay. During the so-called probationary period, the salary is only the minimum wage of 23,800. Regardless of the position you apply for, you’re expected to know how to write academic papers and proposals, and you might even need to know how to litigate and start a company.

2. The architecture firm is run-down, old, dark, and damp; the working environment is unbelievably poor. (The materials seem to date from its heyday and have been preserved until now in worse condition than those at a secondhand bookstall. In addition, everything is recorded on video and audio the entire time, and the materials are inspected at any moment—presumably because they’re afraid of being reported for too many illegal activities.)

3. The boss is very good at boasting. I think some of his ideas are pretty good, but given the salary he offers, I imagine only someone out of their mind or someone coming purely for the experience would work on his projects—for example, using the abilities of an editor-in-chief to edit a professional book of proposals; setting up a professional foundation without knowing what it’s supposed to do; and establishing various types of multifunctional institutions. All I can say is: You’re thinking too big.

4. In addition to a résumé, the interview requires you to write an “assignment.” Simply put, they want you to get “used to” overtime being the norm, not complain about low pay, not be surprised by plagiarism, and not be bothered by violations of the law. Do you have experience as a servant? Then this is the place for you.

5. In addition, there are many so-called “wrongful cases.” After checking the judicial judgment system and related litigation cases, all I can say is that judges really aren’t uneducated. The evidence and information written in the cases are very clear; everyone can look at them and make up their own minds.

6. All I can say is that the fact this company still exists is truly a miracle. Don’t think you’re going in to find a job—you’re going in to be put through the wringer. Want to become a real “employee”? Choosing this company is definitely your top choice.

I went for an interview in August 2018.

A typical small company in Tainan with a typical Tainan boss.

HR invited me to interview for a legal administrative position. During the phone call, they first asked how much I expected to be paid, then said that many people had asked for very high salaries, which did not meet their expectations. I thought it was ridiculous—if they know they cannot find anyone at such a low salary and are aware of that, why say so much?

I figured I would go to the interview to see what it was like and gain some interview experience.

The architecture firm looked like a private residence by the roadside; inside, it was dilapidated, old, dark, and damp. The working environment was extremely poor.

The boss was very good at selling himself and exaggerating, saying that he had trained many architects and now hoped to train lawyers.

Seriously... what the hell are you talking about? “Train lawyers”....

In addition to submitting a résumé, the interview required writing a “loyalty questionnaire” for their firm. Simply put, they wanted to see whether you were loyal enough, submissive enough, obedient, and able to endure hardship and work hard.

When I asked about the job duties, I learned that besides general legal work, the boss also wanted to establish a foundation. Once the foundation was established, organizing seminars would also be part of the legal staff’s work. In addition, the boss said he wanted to publish a book, so in the future the legal staff would also have to help organize, edit, and publish the content....

They also assigned a small take-home task and asked me to write it up and email it back..... It was ridiculous....

The boss looked to be in his sixties, and I do not know how much longer he can keep going. You really have to think carefully before working there; the firm could possibly dissolve one day.

Pros

Those with a strong servile streak, high EQ, and plenty of tolerance are welcome to learn and gain experience and knowledge.

Cons

An indescribable environment, pitfalls, selfishness, pettiness, and humiliation.

It can only be described as a classic.

Pros

Gain some experience. Once we arrived, both sides knew it wasn’t a good fit, but the owner still spent 30 minutes talking with me and offering some advice, which showed sincerity.

Cons

HR proactively contacted me for an interview. Over the phone, they said the position wasn’t listed on 104, but that it was probably general administration. It didn’t match my résumé or the type of position I was looking for. However, I thought it would be my first interview and a chance to gain experience, so I agreed.

When I arrived, the owner felt that my salary expectations were too high and that they might not be able to offer even half of what I requested (they didn’t say so explicitly, but it sounded like around NT$25,000).

The company distributes a sheet implying that good employees should work overtime.

My educational background is solid, although it is in a different field, and I am not willing to work overtime. The owner essentially declined politely, saying that he wouldn’t say the small temple couldn’t accommodate a great Buddha—he could accommodate me—but he guessed that I probably wouldn’t be satisfied with the salary. He also implied that if I couldn’t work overtime, salaries in Tainan would not be high, and suggested that I would be better off going home to take care of my children.

The firm seems to handle mostly government projects. It feels like there are about 10 employees, and the workplace has a very family-style atmosphere.

The HR person seemed rather incompetent. The person they were looking for was not what the owner wanted, and they also couldn’t determine my salary expectations from my résumé.

People who did not major in architecture-related fields are probably not suitable.

I applied for an education and training administration position, but when I arrived, it turned out to be a general administrative position.

You need to know drafting software and planning, and perhaps the software taught in architecture programs, cross-analysis, and so on.

If you are interested, they will also give you an interview assignment and ask you to email it back.

They say it is to test your planning and administrative abilities (they did not mention whether you would be paid if they used the work).

You are only officially hired if they are satisfied with it.

The three-month probationary period pays NT$21,009, the rate for a fresh graduate.

They indirectly imply that you must show passion for the job (overtime under a responsibility-based system, with overtime pay merely empty talk).

If there is something you do not know, you have to pursue additional training outside on your own (with no subsidy).

They also have a very poor opinion of young people today and of those whose educational qualifications are insufficient.

They constantly put you down and expect you to accept low pay.

They think that people with strong subservience who are willing to accept low pay are the good ones.

It is very easy to leave the interview feeling furious.

You need high EQ to get through the interview, and enough subservience to get hired.
