1. Experienced seniors can negotiate a pretty good salary (but it seems like you need to be from NTU, NTHU, or NYCU? I am, at least.)

2. The work model is hybrid, so you can go to the office when you want (ergonomic chairs and height-adjustable desks are standard). Awesome.

3. There is a high degree of autonomy, and the colleagues are quite professional, so you can exchange ideas and learn from one another.

4. You have plenty of time and space to study technologies on your own. Great.

1. It’s a 10-minute walk from the MRT station.

2. It’s very difficult to find a motorcycle parking space.

3. The colleagues are never at the office, so there’s no one to chat with casually.

Good benefits, a great company culture, and challenging work that provides a sense of accomplishment. Both my colleagues and manager are highly capable.

Since the company is relatively large, there are still some difficult people, but overall, my colleagues are easy to communicate with.

The DPI Team supervisor is very unprofessional. Otherwise, if you are not a woman or are asking for a high salary as a graduate of NTU, NTHU, or NYCU, going to the interview is just a waste of time.

I did a two-month summer internship at Trend Micro.

I heard that the culture can vary considerably between different departments.

* There is no clocking in or out, and no need to rush to work or return from breaks at a set time. At noon, you can simply go out to eat when you get hungry and resume working when you feel you have had enough rest.

* Free coffee and tea bags are available, along with a selection of one-dollar drinks. Coworkers also often bring back local specialties from their trips and place them on the communal table for everyone to enjoy.

* Each month, meal allowances are provided for team gatherings, and drinks are ordered for everyone at the end of each sprint.

* After each sprint, there is a sharing session where you can get a general idea of what the other teams in the department are working on.

* The team follows a software engineering development process. Communication among team members is quite thorough, and there are relatively clear goals to achieve, so you are less likely to end up not knowing what you are supposed to do.

* Talks and courses are frequently held for everyone to attend, allowing you to continuously learn new things.

* Although the work arrangement is based more on responsibility than fixed hours, overtime does not seem to be common. Usually, the workload can mostly be completed during working hours.

* The clients are all quite prominent, which suggests that Trend Micro's department has few competitors in this field and has promising prospects.

* As a leading and profitable software company in Taiwan, the salaries for full-time employees are honestly a little too low.

* There is no standardized SOP for training new employees. If both the supervisor and mentor neglect their responsibilities, new hires may end up not knowing anything.

The office is beautiful, there are lots of attractive women, the company is well-known, and you can walk with confidence.

The QA interview felt more like an exchange of information than a recruitment interview, so I couldn’t even find out what the job involved. It would be better if HR gave candidates a business card; otherwise, it’s quite awkward when you can’t even remember their names.

HR was quite friendly during the initial contact.

When asked about the job responsibilities, the interviewer only gave vague, formulaic answers and broad, conceptual descriptions. Even after listening, it was still unclear what the actual work involved. They seemed very reluctant to provide details, which left a very poor impression.

The HR person was super nice—the most professional and outstanding HR person I’ve ever encountered!

I didn’t click with the manager during the interview, but the process was okay overall.

The interview went well overall. Most of the managers were very nice.

I made it to the third interview. The senior manager said they would hire me.

I turned down my other offers, only to receive a rejection letter.

Fuck.

The company has a strong reputation.

The interviewing manager was condescending, constantly trying to pry into the technology used at my previous company, and spoke in a demeaning tone. When I asked about the actual job responsibilities, they kept evading the question and refused to respond directly. HR also kept probing about my salary and repeatedly tried to cut the offered compensation. I specifically took a test and passed it, yet the interview left me feeling humiliated. Whether it was professional questions or personal experience, they acted as if none of it was anything special. Why did they invite me to interview in the first place if they had not even looked at my résumé? It was clearly just HR trying to meet a performance target. Completely absurd.

The environment is good, the salary and benefits are decent, and they are also willing to try new technologies. If you work with a good manager and good colleagues, you can learn a lot. Many people have also gone on to start their own businesses from here, so it is a great place to build a foundation.

There is a lack of forward-looking leadership. Many projects are only pursued for a while before moving on to the next one. Benefits are still being reduced, and the company has not been able to achieve truly innovative value.

1. The company atmosphere is great, with all kinds of performance- and sports-oriented clubs, as well as an endless stream of talks, study groups, and English classes. If you really want to learn, the only worry is that you’ll never finish learning.

2. Management is very respectful toward employees. Whenever anything needs to be done or any work hours need to be estimated, they always ask for input from R&D and Q&A. They don’t impose an unreasonable deadline that ultimately leads to explosive amounts of overtime. Managers either have a technical background or worked their way up from entry-level R&D positions, so they basically understand technical discussions and there’s no talking past each other.

3. The pay is indeed fairly average compared with IC design, but at least there’s genuinely good work-life balance. Once the work is done, you can leave work feeling at ease. +1

Pros

1. The work environment and atmosphere are excellent.

2. Flexible working hours. Once the work is done, you can leave work with peace of mind; there is no need to put on an act by sitting in the office pretending to be busy.

3. There are quite a few highly capable senior colleagues with whom you can exchange ideas and learn from one another.

Cons

1. The salary is very low. If you have less than five years of experience, it may even be lower than that of the Chunghwa Telecom Research Institute. Unless you get promoted, salary growth is very slow; even with a promotion, the salary adjustment is still not substantial. The amount of the adjustment is not necessarily positively correlated with the growth of the company’s or product’s performance.

2. The total of the profit-sharing and bonuses is less than one month’s salary. The company claims that this year’s performance is the highest in its history, but the profit-sharing and bonuses are still very meager.

3. The company originally did not quibble with employees over leave and offered various benefits exceeding the Labor Standards Act. After the one-fix-one-day-off policy was introduced, it aligned various policies with the Labor Standards Act to save money. Fully paid sick leave was originally 12 days but has now been reduced to only 3 days; new employees’ annual leave was originally 10 days but is now 7 days.

4. The complaint channels are very opaque. Think carefully before speaking up; some managers/HR personnel are not on the employees’ side.

After two years at the company, I really like the culture here and the respect people show. When you make a mistake, you won’t get harshly berated like at my previous company; managers emphasize whether you learn from your mistakes.

The salary is good, and the benefits are quite generous. Managers won’t suppress overtime pay when it’s due, and individual achievements are easily recognized. (At my previous company, managers would take credit for employees’ achievements... QQ)

The company isn’t stingy with what it should provide, and it also encourages employees to learn. I’m very happy to grow together with a company like this.

The salary isn't great, but the company culture, environment, and atmosphere are excellent. A good choice for those who prioritize life over salary.

Nothing much in the way of new products—keeps buying new companies to make up the numbers. The salaries offered are just average for the industry.

Originally, there were 12 days of paid sick leave, which was better than what was required by the Labor Standards Act. After the one-fixed-day-off-and-one-flexible-rest-day policy, only three days remain. Female employees can use sick leave three times for their menstrual periods…

A company that values employees’ lives, with various training courses and clubs. The environment is great!
