I did a two-month summer internship at Trend Micro.

I heard that the culture can vary considerably between different departments.

* There is no clocking in or out, and no need to rush to work or return from breaks at a set time. At noon, you can simply go out to eat when you get hungry and resume working when you feel you have had enough rest.

* Each month, meal allowances are provided for team gatherings, and drinks are ordered for everyone at the end of each sprint.

* After each sprint, there is a sharing session where you can get a general idea of what the other teams in the department are working on.

* The team follows a software engineering development process. Communication among team members is quite thorough, and there are relatively clear goals to achieve, so you are less likely to end up not knowing what you are supposed to do.

* Talks and courses are frequently held for everyone to attend, allowing you to continuously learn new things.

* Although the work arrangement is based more on responsibility than fixed hours, overtime does not seem to be common. Usually, the workload can mostly be completed during working hours.

* The clients are all quite prominent, which suggests that Trend Micro's department has few competitors in this field and has promising prospects.

* As a leading and profitable software company in Taiwan, the salaries for full-time employees are honestly a little too low.

* There is no standardized SOP for training new employees. If both the supervisor and mentor neglect their responsibilities, new hires may end up not knowing anything.
