Read the community guidelines1. Dragon Boat Festival/Mid-Autumn Festival gift money (NT$3,000 for employees who have been employed for at least one year; NT$1,500 for those employed for less than one year)
2. There is an employee welfare committee that periodically organizes group meals and team-building activities. However, an additional monthly welfare fee of NT$200 is required. Committee members are reelected annually, so everyone has a chance to serve.
3. Even when performance was at its worst in the past, the year-end bonus was still at least equivalent to one month’s salary.
4. Colleagues are easy to get along with. Since it is a family-owned business with a relatively flat organization, there is no need to scheme or compete for advancement.
5. For people who enjoy fishing, there are many opportunities to participate in free fishing activities. Because of the company’s products, these activities mainly involve boat fishing.
1. Low starting salary: The starting salary for general new hires is usually around NT$28,000–30,000. When the three-month probationary period is nearly over, employees interview with the general manager, who decides whether to increase the salary further. Based on what is currently known, the increase is usually only NT$500 or NT$1,000.
2. Salary increases are almost nonexistent:
The salary after the probationary period is probably what you will earn for the next three years, unless the company’s performance is exceptionally good that year, in which case there may be a NT$500 increase. Depending on the department, departments other than Sales generally only receive a NT$500 increase.
3. Small industry market:
The company mainly targets the Japanese fishing market, so its market is very limited. Performance has been trending downward over the past decade. The only exception was 2020–2021, when the company unexpectedly benefited from the pandemic. Fishing is a relatively low-density outdoor leisure activity, so sales in Japan were good during those two years. However, conditions have returned to normal starting this year: order volumes have dropped sharply, and with China’s pandemic-related lockdowns occurring at any time, it has also become difficult to ship goods, further affecting subsequent orders.
4. Male employees are required to take on miscellaneous duties, such as driving the chairman home and providing transportation when the general manager’s sister needs to go out.
Overall, because salaries are low and there is almost no room for raises, it is strongly not recommended for people from outside Taipei who need to rent housing to come here to work. After paying rent, life would be very difficult, and it would be hard to save any money. For local residents of Taipei or New Taipei City who are single and do not need to rent, it may be worth trying for a few years before moving to another company. For people who are not single and need to support children, this salary is also not really adequate.
In short, this job is suitable for people without the burden of rent, single people, or those under 26. If you join when you are close to 30, after accumulating several years of experience, you will already be over 30 when you try to change jobs, and there will be far fewer good opportunities.
