Pros

1. Can serve as an engineer’s first job experience (the requirements aren’t high)

2. There are employee clubs to join (employees have to pay a welfare fee)

3. The company premises are impressive

4. User requests and engineers’ changes going live all follow a process, so you can learn the workflow from requirements to deployment, including a complete Git flow

5. Generally complies with the Labor Standards Act (the company cares a lot about its image)

6. There is a travel subsidy, but it can only be used to purchase the company’s products

Cons

1. There used to be one WFH day, but now you have to go every day to a kingdom that’s incredibly far away. Although the company provides shuttle buses, you are responsible if you are late because of the shuttle bus (traffic jams); sometimes delays aren’t even announced. The shuttle buses are also quite often full. The company’s attitude is: “We provide a shuttle bus as a favor to you. Our tour buses are meant to go out and make money!”

2. Front-end is arguably the lowest-level function in the company. Whenever a website breaks, it is considered the front end’s problem; even when the HTML hasn’t received a response, it is still the front end’s problem… If you need help from another team (even when it is their bug), you have to beg them a thousand times (some departments)

3. Most websites still use jQuery, and some even mix React and jQuery, so routing is still controlled by the back end—amazing! There is a lot of historical baggage (after all, engineers are treated as disposable)

4. It depends on your luck which team you get assigned to. The worst is being responsible for shared modules… Let me say it again: there is a lot of historical baggage!

5. There are no regular raises (the decision is in HR’s hands; some people have even received only a 1% raise—what can I say…). Even if you perform well, you will not get a raise if you have not been with the company long enough. Without raises, why would anyone want to stay? So they just hire new people again. Engineers can be treated like disposable chopsticks, and existing employees have to keep training newcomers

6. The information provided at the year-end party is extremely stingy (there were even near-expiry tea bags as prizes). The company considers IT a cost and the party an expense; Lion Travel is the client—the kind that is very high-handed

7. The company restructures its organization almost every year. Front-end is even more pitiful now, although newcomers can learn things (staying for about a year is enough)

8. The usual problems of traditional Taiwanese companies: making grand promises and using emotional blackmail

9. Deployments have to be done at night (overtime, with overtime pay or compensatory leave). A less reasonable case occurred when people were required to work overnight during a previous long holiday (it rarely happens—almost never—but if it does, you have to follow the arrangement)

Overall, most colleagues are easy to get along with, but the more people leave, the worse things become… Staying for one year is pretty good; staying for two years is a different story.

The company does not see employees as assets; basically, they are all costs.

Pros

There are tons of pretty girls.

Employees can enjoy discounts on many travel products.

You won’t be fired for not knowing how to code.

Cons

If this is a full-stack position,

people who want to hone their skills should stay away.

Ninety percent of the requirements are programs that can be written with a simple copy and paste.

(The other 10% may be because there are no difficult projects in my team.)

Most of the underlying shared methods have already been written,

so you only need to know how to call them; you don’t have to write them yourself.

As a result, the application development you get to do is limited.

Unfortunately, I encountered an interviewer who lied.

What was discussed in the interview was completely different from the actual work after joining.

They said this position would involve working on various projects,

but after joining, I was told that I would be maintaining the same type of functionality year after year.

The company has all kinds of strange rules:

Men have to wear formal shirts.

Women cannot wear sleeveless tops or shorts (but short skirts are allowed).

Nothing may be left on an unoccupied desk.

Jackets cannot be draped over the back of a chair; they must all be hung in the designated “clothing room.”

You also have to clean the restroom (squeegee the water) to keep it tidy.

They assign orderliness scores to each floor.

One month of year-end bonus is a bit little.

The salary is also very low.

All those inexplicable rules are exhausting.

Pros

It depends on your luck.

If you’re lucky and your manager is a good person,

basically, most teams won’t be too demanding. It’s fairly relaxed and suitable for taking it easy until retirement.

Cons

It depends on your luck.

If you’re unlucky and your manager isn’t good,

it may be more demanding. I’ve heard that some teams often require overtime.

Whether you can learn anything is also uncertain.

Even within the same team, different work assignments can make a big difference.

However, in our relaxed, easygoing team, I feel that what you can actually learn is quite limited, so you may be less competitive when you leave.

Summary:

Everything depends on luck.

The person who interviews you determines your future.

Pros

1. A++-grade office building

2. Shuttle buses run between the office and the MRT station for commuting

3. I heard the salary package is competitive?

Cons

1. The interview was held on the ninth floor of the Neihu headquarters. It was my first time seeing an entire floor of meeting rooms with no partitions at all—just separate circles set up with a table, projector, and screen in each one. Everyone could hear the conversations from the other sections, so it was extremely noisy!! I couldn’t hear the interviewer clearly!! It was the first time I had seen such poor meeting quality and meeting space!! The company is really cutting costs.

2. A very superficial culture. An executive vice president entered the elevator, and many people greeted him by saying, “Hello, Vice President.” During the interview, the co-interviewer also addressed the primary interviewer as “sir,” even though he was only a deputy section chief.....

3. The interviewer said the bonus and total number of months’ salary were very low.

4. Although it is an A++-grade office building, the location is still very remote (fortunately, there is a shuttle bus)!! There is absolutely nothing around there. It is also near an interchange.

5. Male candidates are required to wear formal clothing and a tie!! The problem is that neither of the two interviewers was wearing a tie themselves~~

Pros

There are many female colleagues.

Cons

The manager often makes grand promises but frequently fails to deliver. They also often propose approaches that make you gasp and violate software engineering standards. If you point out that something is unattainable, you will be called in for a meeting. The manager does not accept any differing opinions and only does what they think is right.
