They offered me the job by phone right after the interview. After asking around, I found out they were looking for an assistant to a civil servant—someone who would be very willing to put up with everything. When they realized I wasn’t that kind of person, they later called to berate me and then said I didn’t need to come to work. This company was originally based in Kaohsiung, so they assume people are very submissive. I hope everyone won’t choose this company if they have other good job options.
1. The development team has a good atmosphere.
2. The managers of the engineers are generally young, so they are easy to communicate with.
3. Overtime is paid.
4. Leave is calculated in half-day increments, so taking the afternoon off is a good deal.
5. There is a department dinner once every three months.
6. ...That seems to be all.
1. The time it takes for the server to compile and lag is long enough for me to go have afternoon tea.
2. The development environment is extremely noisy. The customer service and administrative staff are all in the same room, so just listening to them talk on the phone is exhausting. Sometimes certain senior employees even make LINE calls with their speakers on.
3. The chair legs break every now and then. While coding, you also have to worry about whether you might be thrown to the floor one day.
4. There is no coffee machine or snack cabinet. If you want coffee or snacks, you have to go downstairs and buy them yourself.
5. The PMs are very incompetent. Their scheduling is terrible, and they always compress the development timeline. Then they blame project delays on the engineers developing too slowly.
6. Documentation is provided at their discretion. Sometimes they tell you to start working without providing any, and after you do it incorrectly, they call you in and chew you out.
7. When there is a delay, they often “ask” whether you are willing to work overtime to catch up. The problem is that not a single project is ever on time.
8. We work ourselves half to death, but poor contract acceptance and planning by upper management causes schedule delays and penalties. Then those below have the misfortune of sharing the burden and losing their year-end bonuses.
9. A certain senior administrative employee often asks engineers to answer the phone, proclaiming that everyone works for the same company and should help one another. However, I have never seen this person help take out the trash or order lunch boxes.
10. There are no performance bonuses, and salaries are only adjusted once a year—and even then, the increases are very small.
11. The person in charge of the company said they would use the money for everyone’s year-end party raffle prizes to buy lottery tickets, saying that if they won, there could be even more prizes. But to this day, there has still been no news about holding the raffle. QQ
12. Training is incomplete, so the R&D staff have to figure everything out through telepathy.
Conclusion:
Sales recklessly accept projects, PMs recklessly plan them, SAs recklessly conduct requirements interviews, SDs have no documentation, R&D has no rights, and the year-end bonus is less than one month’s salary. What a joke.
All document specifications use publicly available resources
There have been improvements in training and education over the past two years, with recordings available for reference
The company's clients are all government agencies, so payments upon acceptance will not be skipped
Overtime is paid
They calculate every penny owed to employees very precisely
Typhoon days off are unpaid
Travel subsidies are not reimbursed based on actual expenses. When traveling for work by high-speed rail, the subsidy only covers the fare for the Tze-Chiang Limited Express
The year-end bonus depends on whether the company made a profit and on individual performance evaluations. (Basically, no one gets two months' worth; of course, some get less than one month.)
A welfare fund is deducted monthly by the employee welfare committee. For the Mid-Autumn Festival and Dragon Boat Festival, the only benefits are NT$500 worth of vouchers or gifts, paid for through the deductions
Even though the company clearly makes money
They buy used laptops overseas and reinstall the operating systems after bringing them back. They are extremely heavy, making every off-site meeting a chance to build physical strength
There is a project meeting every week that regularly runs until 10 p.m. (Overtime is paid.)
The PM department managers and the boss often speak so bluntly and cluelessly that they are separated from being outright obnoxious by only a fine line
Basically, everyone is very good at shifting responsibility
It depends on luck what project you are assigned to
The senior employees all started right after graduating
If you have just graduated, this is a good place to build a solid foundation
Because the company mostly recruits recent graduates or people without information-project experience
So there are more rules than in a government agency
You also have to fill out a work log every day; if you do not, money will be deducted
