Nothing to say

Cons

Marketing Manager, Ms. Huang

A parachuted-in two-faced person who makes countless petty moves behind the scenes, thinks she is incredibly capable, but can only make things up and is self-important—a vase who really is not all that impressive.

She really knows nothing about marketing. It is just a few supposedly clever little tricks, enough to deceive an outsider boss who does not understand the field. Do not expect to learn anything from her; you will probably only learn how to put on a superficial show. She once said that she came to this company to save it. It is genuinely laughable—how can someone who knows nothing and refuses to learn anything have the confidence to think she can save it?

In dealing with people, she is full of behind-the-scenes maneuvering. Anyway, none of you are managers, so you do not know what exactly she has said to upper management or what she has obtained from them. The bonuses, of course, all go into her own pocket; after all, you would not know what bonuses there are.

At the year-end banquet, the managers of every department received extra bonuses. In the Marketing Department, the extra money came from the boss, while the manager surnamed Huang was the one who took the money. Of course, there was no rule requiring an extra bonus, but if you were okay with it, you could go ahead :)

She is very good at telling lies with complete justification, genuinely believing that everyone does not know she is lying. Because she is a manager, everyone cannot expose her and can only put up with it. Perhaps she is thick-skinned enough; in the end, she is still the one benefiting. I asked for a raise, and she told me to list what I had done. In addition to listing my own duties, I also listed eight or nine tasks that were not originally part of my responsibilities. She brushed it off by replying, “You didn’t pass the performance review.” First, a performance review requires that the duties and expectations be established beforehand. Second, we all know she simply does not dare or want to speak to the boss on our behalf, so she brings up how other employees have also gone five or seven years without a raise and says that therefore we cannot get one. (I really do not understand this logic—is she saying that the company’s system is simply this terrible, that long-serving employees have all accepted it, and that our only options are to accept it or resign?) There was not even a performance-review system originally, and although this cannot be verified, nobody seriously gets a raise.

She has always wanted to be the kind of “good manager” praised by society, but whenever something truly conflicts with her interests, she naturally puts her own interests first. She wants to attack the company together with us as though we were friends, but when it comes to matters for which managers are responsible, she only says, “That was their decision; there’s nothing I can do.” She will not do anything that could cause trouble. When we are dealing with the company’s management, she is an employee; when our opinions conflict with hers, she is the manager. She turns hostile whenever she feels like it, and there is nothing you can do about her.

She will say whatever lie benefits her. Once, when she wanted me to do something outside my duties simply because it was something she wanted done, she told me, “Aren’t you in the Marketing Department? You have to do anything related to Marketing.” Then why wasn’t the position advertised as “Marketing Department slave” when you were hiring? Why divide positions at all? Once, because she kept changing her own mind, I told her to think it through before giving instructions, otherwise I would have to redo the work after each change. She replied, “Can’t I send something back to you? Do I have to accept everything you do?” Of course she does not have to accept everything; it is just shameless of her not to realize how ridiculous it is to reject her own instructions. That work was not something I came up with—it was what she had just told me to do. And there is much more. It is not that the stories are outrageous; they only get more outrageous.

She says she is not familiar with Chinese, so she reads the Chinese messages we tell her very slowly and takes a long time to absorb them. Therefore, she expects us to give her the methods and answers directly because that is faster. In other words, she has no intention of learning: just complete the work for her, and she only needs to know the result. There is no need to explain complicated things to her; she only needs to enjoy the results. Furthermore, because she wanted to take responsibility for Facebook as well and get a share of the credit (the Facebook results were quite good precisely because she was completely uninvolved), she rushed to take over replying to private messages. Yes, customer service—that’s right. She can understand those Chinese characters perfectly. Your rank is simply too low; she does not understand your Chinese.

Try joining the Marketing Department and see whether she is still there. Oh, right—she wants to get rid of the general manager and take the general manager’s position. She constantly says how useless the general manager is, and then you will gradually discover that she uses the same tactics on you too~

Pros

You can simply slack off along with everyone else; the only concern is that it may become a habit and turn you into a long-serving veteran employee.

You can seriously plan to retire here: figure out how to live comfortably and how to build up your competitiveness. Treat it as a place for an extended rest, or, if the salary is acceptable (and won’t change), settle down comfortably here.

Cons

The boss still makes money using traditional ways of doing business. Coming to the company is merely about satisfying his own sense of achievement and feeling that he is impressive. The first thing he says is always criticizing others. In short, he is arrogant and obsessed with saving face.

The general manager and vice president are more or less the same. Their job at the company is “how to make everyone think I’m working while I’m not actually working,” and they do this very well.

The marketing manager is useless: poor at art, marketing, sales, and handling people, and also has princess syndrome. They believe everything is the fault of the higher-ups being annoying, which is why they cannot fully demonstrate their talents. They are very stubborn and do not like listening to others. Even after you finish speaking, they will still decide to do things their own way, so there is not much point in communicating. They are only asking you as a formality, so you should also answer them as a formality.

Basically, there will be no salary increases, so if you want to join, negotiate and agree in advance on the salary you are willing to receive over the next three years.

Pros

None

You could say it’s somewhat relaxed,

but I think this company is just about done for,

so there isn’t much to do anyway.

Cons

The company is outdated

The environment is dirty and chaotic

The products are not competitive

The atmosphere is old and lifeless; a dated, yellowed office

A completely lifeless work atmosphere

It feels like everyone is just waiting to die

Warehouse operations are a complete mess

A bunch of salespeople are just coasting and waiting around

Outdated equipment

They don’t consider available space when receiving goods; they just force everything in and make employees move and cram it in by brute force

When containers arrive, the male employees are worked to death—there’s no loading dock

The container trucks are too tall and the goods are too heavy; it’s a typical Taiwanese company with no system whatsoever
