Pros

I can't think of any at the moment.

Cons

The salary at the Toufen tourist factory is low, and the work is complicated—that's one thing. But some senior colleagues who have been there for several years act like upperclassmen. Instead of teaching, they simply scold others without making any sense. They are extremely self-righteous!

Pros

Gift vouchers or gift boxes are provided during the three major holidays.

There is an annual year-end bonus.

On the last working day of each year, there is a year-end deep cleaning, and the company provides drinks.

A New Year work-start red envelope of NT$600 is given.

There are employee dinners (once or twice a year) or employee trips (once every 2–3 years).

A late-meal allowance is provided when working past 8 p.m.

It is easy to take leave, and employees are not usually given a hard time.

Employees receive a 20% discount when purchasing company products.

There is employee housing where employees can stay for free.

Cons

For new hires, becoming a regular employee takes at least 3 months and up to a year, depending on whether your supervisor has enough influence.

Your salary increases when you become a regular employee, so it is not surprising for the process to be delayed for a year; after all, the company can save several months’ worth of pay.

After becoming a regular employee, your salary basically will not increase again—you will have the same salary for life. The reasons are as follows:

During the probationary period, the salary is NT$22,000, and the full NT$22,000 is transferred to your account.

After becoming a regular employee, if your salary is NT$24,000, only NT$23,000 may be transferred to your account, with the remaining NT$1,000 paid in cash.

This allows the company to shift part of the cash payment into the account when the government raises the minimum wage (because the government only looks at whether the amount transferred into the account has increased).

Example: The company shifts NT$500 into the account, making the account deposit NT$23,500, while the cash portion becomes NT$500. The salary is still NT$24,000—on the surface, it looks like a raise, but in reality, there is no raise.

Although there is a year-end bonus, based on what I have heard, it has never exceeded one month’s salary. Long-term employees with over 20 years at the company receive roughly the same amount every year.

Whether overtime pay is provided depends on the department. Production workers receive overtime pay, but it is not necessarily calculated according to the Labor Standards Act.

Some busier production-worker departments operate on two shifts (morning and afternoon), but the afternoon shift, which ends at 9 p.m., pays the same as the morning shift; the only difference is whether a late-meal allowance is provided.

For office workers, overtime can only be exchanged for time off: one day of overtime earns one day off. It cannot be exchanged for overtime pay, and the time off must be used within two months.

The rules for taking annual leave depend on the department. Production workers must take at least 4 hours of annual leave at a time, while office workers can take leave by the hour.
