Pros

Process: Japanese translation, including Chinese-to-Japanese and Japanese-to-Chinese translation, plus multiple-choice questions on computer system operation → interview with the interviewer → HR

1. Since it is a Japanese company, the salary and benefits are better than those of most Taiwanese companies.

2. If they do not intend to hire you, they will tell you on the spot, saving both parties’ time.

3. HR was very friendly. Since I was told halfway through the interview with the interviewer that they would not hire me, I did not want to waste HR’s time when I reached the HR stage, so I directly said that I did not have much to ask about the job and acted as though I was not interested. HR then left.

Cons

1. The interviewer seemed to call the applicant in for an interview without seriously reading the résumé all the way through, wasting the other person’s time. Even though the résumé clearly mentioned my experience, I merely repeated it during the interview, and the interviewer actually responded, “Oh? You have this experience?”

2. I know that Japanese companies generally spend a lot of time asking many questions to understand an applicant’s personality, but some of the interviewer’s questions went beyond that scope. Combined with the condescending attitude, they made me feel very uncomfortable. There were absurd questions, such as asking too much about family members’ occupations. Normally, knowing their job titles should be enough—why ask so deeply? The interviewer also asked how much savings the applicant had. What does that have to do with the job?

3. The interviewer was condescending. After looking at the work samples I brought, they disdainfully muttered criticisms; they also made comments about me being too young, and so on. In any case, it was obvious that the other person had merely called me in to criticize me and vent their work-related stress. They had not even read my résumé and perhaps had no intention of getting to know the applicant from beginning to end, wasting an entire afternoon of my time.

4. Normally, sufficient time should be allotted for applicants to finish the test before proceeding with the interview. However, that day, while I was halfway through the test, the interviewer suddenly came in and started the interview without any prior notice. It felt very disrespectful to the applicant.

5. After the interview, I continued and finished the test. I originally thought I could leave after submitting it, but HR asked me to sit and wait for a while. Unexpectedly, I waited for more than an hour before HR came back in and said that the interview was over. Having to wait that extra hour or more was completely inexplicable. Although the person was friendly, the process felt unprofessional and strangely arranged.

6. The cleaning lady downstairs said that this company is very particular about employees’ work attire, and anyone who does not comply with the rules will be criticized.

7. If this is their attitude during the interview, I would not be respected even if I joined the company. Even the good benefits and salary no longer interest me.

8. My evaluation of the job itself is average, but my interview experience was poor.
