You work overtime and beyond regular hours almost every day, and overtime pay is rarely provided (you can only apply if your supervisor approves, and the first 30 minutes are not counted as overtime)

You are expected to finish your work or bring it to a certain stage (deemed responsible for your own working hours)

There are no clearly defined break times; you have to find a free moment to eat

There is an unspoken rule of excluding newcomers: if there is food or drinks, you will not be included

A benefits fee is deducted from your salary starting when you join as a newcomer, but benefits are only available after passing the exam

In practice: the bonuses after senior employees' promotions come from what was squeezed out of new employees in the early stage, so there is no real profit

Additional note: This company accepts almost any file format without refusing submissions and helps with layout, which makes the employees more tired; some other printing companies only accept PDF and JPG files.

There are quite a lot of things to remember after entering the industry.

For tasks outside your main area of work, it takes some time to learn.

The interview invitation came quickly, and the HR staff and other colleagues were very polite.

Parking nearby is difficult to find.

1. Paid leave is provided on national holidays, in accordance with the Labor Standards Act, and the company’s benefits are explained clearly. The interviewer answered every question and did not brush anything off with vague remarks.

2. Since training is provided from the ground up, prior work experience is not required. Basically, anyone who expresses interest in the job can be hired.

3. There is no need to wear a formal suit to the interview. The interview style is relaxed and pressure-free.

This is not really a drawback. The interviewer explained that this industry requires starting from the ground up, and previous work experience is not useful if it was outside the printing industry. There will be an adjustment period during which both sides need to adapt to each other.

The interview consists of two stages, so it takes a little longer.

During peak seasons, you are required to work 4 hours of overtime. On ordinary days that are not particularly busy, you may also need to work an additional 1–2 hours of irregular overtime. However, the company does not pay overtime wages in accordance with the Labor Standards Act, and the overtime pay for more than 3 hours of overtime is even lower than the hourly wage at a convenience store or gas station.

Laid off two employees within two weeks; some things are really hard to talk about...

You need to have a strong submissive mindset; clocking in on time is wishful thinking.

“This job is suitable for people who are interested in this industry and willing to work overtime” (Overtime pay is provided; it may be more suitable if you commute by scooter.)

“There’s also this: even if you aren’t hired, they will notify you.”

Judging from the interview, this company is probably expanding its stores and therefore needs to train new employees. However, the training period is not short, so if you aren’t interested, you really shouldn’t apply to this company, to avoid wasting everyone’s time.

This job does pay overtime, but overtime may be required depending on customer circumstances (for example, during graduation season or before popular wedding dates).

When you first start, you are given a very comprehensive personal information questionnaire to fill out. It asks for personal and family information and employment history, followed by questions about your availability for scheduling, willingness to accept schedule changes, willingness to work at different stores, willingness to work overtime, means of transportation, and acceptable commute time. It also asks, “What employee benefit do you value most at work?” and provides options to choose from. Most importantly, it asks about “your personality traits,” with several options for you to check. The final question seems to ask about your aspirations for this job. Altogether, the questionnaire is three pages long.

After that, the interview will ask why you want to do this job, your means of transportation, and your expectations for the job. They also seem to ask about your usual hobbies on holidays.

If you want to get hired, you should have experience working as part of a team (and extensive part-time work experience), select plenty of positive traits in the personality section, be willing to work overtime, and show a very proactive attitude.

Based on the interviewer’s response, if you are notified that you got the job, there may be a second interview.

You are actually asked to provide an emergency contact on the personal information form. Although you can choose not to fill it in, it feels like they ask for a bit too much background information. However, if you want to get hired, you may have to fill it in.
