Relatively quiet
Sometimes you will be "asked" whether you can come in on holidays to help with company events. Of course, this is unpaid, and you may also have to serve as the person on duty and buy breakfast for the boss.
To be clear, I never actually worked for this company; I only interviewed there. Later, when they notified me to come to work, I declined.
I previously went for an interview scheduled for 9 a.m. I waited until nearly 10, and then they said their vice president had something come up unexpectedly and asked me to return at 4 p.m...
OK, I thought I’d come back in the afternoon and see what such a large company was like... Then, right at the start, they said employees get six days off per month; furthermore, at 6 a.m. on Saturday mornings, you have to accompany the chairman on mountain hikes. The hiking doesn’t count as overtime, and of course, there’s no overtime pay either—everything is supposedly covered by the “responsibility system.” At that point, it seemed there was no need to continue the conversation. I had originally heard that their year-end bonus starts at five months’ salary, but after thinking about it, the amount seems roughly equivalent to what the overtime pay would have been... and you have to stick it out for the entire year before you can receive that money. I have no words left to describe the profit model of traditional construction companies.
