Cons

Position: Headquarters Production Control

1. Uneven distribution of work: New employees are assigned major clients with a very heavy workload, while the supervisor only selects easier tasks.

The workloads of the two supervisors are clearly different.

Colleagues returning from parental leave are also given heavier workloads (RL).

2. Procurement is difficult to coordinate with: When following up on materials, you have to gauge the mood of the procurement staff. Their consistent response is that they are very busy, putting a great deal of pressure on suppliers.

As a result, production control staff often cannot obtain delivery dates, and procurement treats different production control staff differently.

3. The supervisor has a low level of professionalism in handling problems: When special situations arise in a project, it is obvious that the supervisor does not know how to handle them, but instead passes the buck—for example, pushing the issue to the factory, the PM department, or RD. The supervisor lacks the ability to provide substantive help in solving team members’ problems.

For example:

When one material was missing during the pilot production launch, the factory asked production control to notify procurement to supply one piece. Instead, the supervisor kept investigating why one piece was missing: Was there a problem with the testing? Which step had a problem? What was the problem?

Rather than resolving the material shortage as quickly as possible.

Only after seeking assistance from a higher-level supervisor did we learn that RD sometimes has extra samples that can be shipped to the factory.

Also, when writing formal emails, the supervisor cannot distinguish between the Chinese characters for “zài” and “zài” (在 and 再).

4. The supervisor is suspected of workplace bullying: When the new employees had all been found and were seated at their desks, the supervisor called dissatisfied team members to her desk and loudly said, “I think you are unfamiliar with operating the system,” and “I am very dissatisfied with what you just wrote.” This caused the team members emotional discomfort.

Content that needed to be presented in a table was required to be described in text, and the employee was then harassed for allegedly providing a poor description.

5. Changing team members’ seats: The supervisor frequently changes the seats of team members she is dissatisfied with.

6. Serious office politics: After hearing gossip, new employees dare not speak to colleagues who are being harassed by the supervisor, and even avoid them when passing by.
