台達電子工業股份有限公司 _DELTA ELECTRONICS INC.
Pros

Good pay, close to home, and currently catching up with AI (Zhongli).

Cons

A mercenary culture. During the interview process, I met the heads of the Power Business Group and the Energy Business Group.

The head of the Power Business Group was very kind, but also an old fox. Because I said I couldn’t share the presentation for my assignment with him, he wouldn’t let me continue with the later stages of the interview XD. Also, during the first-round interview, the colleagues from the Power Business Group all seemed extremely unhappy. It wasn’t directed at me, but they told me very directly that, officially, the direct supervisor was that old fox, while in practice, matters related to our performance reviews depended on the satisfaction of managers from other departments. The old fox would just throw us directly into the line of fire. Actually, I think it would have been very good training. Unfortunately, the old fox may not like subordinates who have too many opinions, so he stopped responding to me, lol.

Another interview was with the head of the Basic Energy Business Group. HR said the organization had just been restructured. During the interview, the boss was on video but kept his camera off. He was overbearing and very disrespectful. His attitude was basically: “Delta Electronics can give you a lot of money—what can you give me? Convince me.” (As if I were supposed to serve him and beg him.) He didn’t really bother thinking about or answering the questions I asked, and he was extremely arrogant. It felt like he was under a lot of pressure and needed someone to come in quickly for him to order around. Then he said he had requirements regarding completeness. (Isn’t that obvious? Who would say they had no requirements regarding completeness? A manager who keeps emphasizing this is probably extremely nitpicky, or has been complained about before, right?)

Anyway, overall, I think that because Delta Electronics has already grown very large, there are huge differences between departments. But to some extent, this is also part of Delta Electronics’ culture: it is highly practical and results-oriented, and it likes to hire people who can hit the ground running and already have experience. It doesn’t pay as much attention to personality traits. (Being easy to manage and willing to obey is still pretty important XD. After all, the leadership skills of the management at Taiwanese companies aren’t that great; they can only throw money at you, tell you to shut up, and act as they please. Taiwanese people are also fairly receptive to this approach—as long as the money is enough, everything is negotiable.) So it really is quite a mercenary culture. To some extent, it also means they only look at your ability. With the current low birth rate and labor shortage, even people whose academic qualifications aren’t very impressive can get in if they have the ability. The key is: be obedient, be willing to learn, and don’t be long-winded.
